Travel Brochure Performance Task




National Geographic has approached me and notified me that it is starting up a
travel agency to market its show from a different perspective. They want to take a
hands on approach and have more viewers engage in actually traveling to destinations
instead of watching through the television. They informed me that I needed to
assemble a task force that could create dream vacation brochures to various locations
in order to market this concept to the public. Your job is to be my task force. Your job
as my task force will be to design dream vacation brochures from countries that you
choose. However National Geographic does have some requirements and guidelines we
need to follow before submitting our final products. The requirements are as follows.

Requirements for Performance Task

1) This performance task will be a group performance task where each group member will have
an individual assignment. Groups will be chosen by me, and group sizes will be no smaller
than 4 or larger than 6 people. Group sizes will vary based on class sizes. This performance
task will be done entirely IN CLASS/SCHOOL!

2) This performance task is focusing on the five themes of geography, therefore when creating
this brochure the brochure must contain information on the five themes of geography.
However you need to research the five themes based on the country you choose.

3) Each group member will be assigned a particular theme for the project. The five themes and
necessary research is as follows:

1) Location Must go in depth on absolute and relative location of your country
2) Place Describe the physical and human features that are in your country
3) Movement How do goods, ideas, and people get around in your country?
4) Human Environment Interaction How do humans adapt to the weather patterns in your
country? How have they modified their environment to protect themselves from natural
disaster?
5) Region What is the climate like in your country? What is the land like? What are some
common human characteristics (religion, behaviors, language) in your country?

Each theme must be accompanied by a picture that directly relates to the theme and the
corresponding country. You can print all your pictures; however the front of your brochure
must be hand drawn, and authentic. Ex If your country is France and youre doing Place you
could have a picture of the Eiffel Tower.

4) Each group member must have at least 2 paragraphs of research on the particular theme in
relation to their country. A paragraph is a minimum of 5-7 sentences. Anything less than 5
sentences will not be considered a paragraph.

5) This performance task requires dedication to research. When researching you must put your
research in your own words. You are NOT required to have a works cited page (page where
you found your information) however if you are caught copy and pasting all the research you
will receive a 0 and face further disciplinary action.

6) This performance task will be worth a total of 400 points. 300 points will be given as a group
grade and an additional 100 points will be given as an individual component. Rubrics for the
grading of the individual and group components are attached.
