filmmakerspermissiontoflycommercialdronesinUSairspace.Thisisthefirsttimethe
FAAhasmadeexemptionsforthenewindustry,anddemandissteadilybuildingforlegal
droneuse.ThelackofregulationsfromtheFAAhasdiscouragedcommonuseof
commercialdrones.Manycompaniesarecurrentlyflyingdronesillegallyoroutofthe
countryandenjoylowcosts.Anotheradvantagetodroneuseistheirsize,whichallows
themtomaneuverinplaceswherehelicoptersandcranescannotfit.Thereisaclear
opportunityfordronescameraperspectiveinfilmmaking.
3. IranFAAclearsdroneuseusingGoogleandYahoo.Theresultswerethesamein
bothsearchengines,butinadifferentorder.WiththisFAAruling,longanticipated,there
aremanyarticlesfromallmajornewssources.Googleofferslinksforsimilarsearches
atthebottomofthepage,whichishelpfulforfindingmoreresults.FromGoogle,I
selectedanarticlefromtheLATimesnamedFAAclearswayfordronestobeusedon
filmsets.Thisarticlefocusedmoreontheeffectoftheexemptionsonthefilmindustry
thantheregulations.ThetopsearchresultfromGooglegavealinkfromtheFAAtoan
articlediscussingtherulingwithafocusonsafetyaswellasanexplanationofdifferent
typesofdroneoperations.

searchedFAAdroneuseinthearticlesection.Ididthistofindawiderangeofarticles
tosearch.OnearticleIfoundwasfromtheInternationalBusinessTimesabouttheFAA
shootingdownadroneusedtotakephotosofrealestate.Thesecondarticlewasabout
FAAdroneregulationshinderingcommercialagricultureprogress,fromtheSoutheast
FarmPress.
6. Thesearchenginearticlesandthelibrarydatabasearticleshadvastlydifferent
results.Withoutquestion,thesearchenginefoundarticlesinafewclicks,whileIhadto
logonandnavigatethelibrarydatabase.Yet,thelibrarysitedidfindmanyinformative
articlesonthesubjectthatthesamesearchdidnotfindonGoogleorYahoo.Theonly
setbackwasthelibrarydatabaseisnotasuptodateasthesearchenginewebsites.
Alsothesearchenginewebsitesfoundmoregenericarticlesthanthedatabase,which
foundmorearticlesfromtradejournals.
