State Defense in Indonesia history
Every country has a state and they have state defenses. In Indonesia, they dont have any
states but provinces. Although they do not have states, they still have defenses. Indonesia
particularly, is not a strong country with different types of soldiers. They are limited and are not
rich compared to other big countries. For a medium-sized country, Indonesia is organized in
managing their defenses.. It is important to know these state defenses that are in Indonesia so that
we could learn how capable our country is and how we can help the country to defend itself.
From a political point of view, we look at the view from a certain branch of commission
such as the National Commissioner of Law (KHN). They have said that there are certain ranks in
the state defense of Indonesia. The ranks are more focused on the police, since Indonesia have
more policemen/women than the soldiers that work in the army. The police have certain duties
and amendments that needs to be fulfilled. Those amendments are written in the UUD no. 2 year
2002 paragraph 13. It states three basic rules. 1: Ensure safety and obedience from the citizens.
2: Enforce the law. 3: Provide safety, aegis, and service to the citizens.
From an economical point of view, the White Book of Indonesia Defense tells us that a
good economy for the country tells us that we can create relationships with our country and it
will improve our national defense. Based from the information, in order for the country to strive
and have a great military power or defenses, the nations money must be kept and secure for
paying the soldiers for their national services. They think that state defense is a tool to prevent
any economic crisis and prevent both internal and external crises.
In economical strength, Indonesias state defense still lacks in many aspects. Even
though, Indonesias demographical aspects is noted as one of the best in the world. There are
some reasons behind this lack of economical finance power. One of the factors is about a
growing country. Indonesia is a growing country, the economic in Indonesia is still unstable and
noted still young. Indonesia hasnt reach a state of country like the United States where the
economic are stable. Aside from Indonesias lack of economical power, Indonesia has once been
feared by the ASEAN countries for its military power in the late 1960s and 1970s. This period of
time is the regime of the second president of Indonesia, Soeharto. President Soeharto is had ruled
Indonesia for 32 years and locked Indonesia away from global influence. Even though, Indonesia
had been locked for 32 years without any global influence, the economical growth of Indonesia
drastically risen and enable Indonesia to have a great military power.
The greatest achievement that Indonesia has with its military power is the overwhelming
power of Navy in the late 1980s. Indonesias navy power is one of the most feared in Asia.
Indonesias navy has many armadas of freighters and motherships that guard the coasts of
Indonesia everytime. The reason behind the overwhelming power of Indonesias navy power is
the demographical of Indonesia. Indonesia is a country made out of islands that is surrounded by
seas. Most bordered countries with Indonesia are in the seas and these borders must be kept
protected.
In the greatest power of a military there should be some aspects that are weak. In
Indonesias case, the aspect that should be more get attention is about the ground forces of
Indonesia. Even though, Indonesias territorial is covered by waters there are still borders that
should be protected always. Some of the examples is about a tribal war that happened in Papua
These things can happened and its lacking power of support. Every time, people suffers because
of this and peace can be kept if there is more support to it.
Indonesias military power is still fragile and lacks many things. From its economical
power till its human resources. From time to time, although there are many problems in
Indonesia that causes the stability of the economy and defense to crumble, we should take part in
helping our country such as paying taxes and hopefully the high status people such as ministers
do not corrupt the money and put it into good use. With this, we can improve the quality of our
country in economically (such as import/export), politically (better enforcement of the law) and
in military power (trustworthy and willing people to work for Indonesias defense.
