Objective
My goal is to further my knowledge, experience and skills regarding curriculum, instruction and
educational leadership through the Doctor of Education program.
Summary
I am currently the principal of Kenna Elementary School in Jackson ounty, !est "irginia. In
the last #$ months in addition to the day%to%day operation of the school, I had the responsi&ility of
working with contractors, architects, and central office staff to coordinate the mo'e to the new #(
million dollar school &uilding. )his included the physical mo'e as well as the planning of se'eral
pu&licity e'ents for the pu&lic and the media.
*rior to coming to Kenna Elementary, I ser'ed as an +ssistant Director in the ,ffice of
+ssessment and +ccounta&ility for the !est "irginia Department of Education. I was responsi&le
for the training, monitoring, and administration of !ES)ES) ( in the state of !est "irginia. I
also de'eloped and pro'ided training to local education agencies regarding assessment,
curriculum, data analysis, as well as other duties to implement state and federal education
policies.
I ha'e #- years of classroom teaching experience along with . years of administrati'e experience.
During my career, I ha'e conducted numerous professional de'elopment acti'ities with positi'e
e'aluations and results. I ha'e managed se'eral pro/ects at the local, regional, and state le'els. +
recent pro/ect was working with a committee and the +ssociation of Mathematics )eacher
Educators to de'elop legislation and policies to implement an elementary mathematics specialist
certification in !est "irginia.
I am a national &oard certified teacher in adolescent0young adulthood mathematics, with a
Masters degree in curriculum and instruction and additional graduate coursework in educational
administration. I o&tained a professional administrati'e certificate with endorsements for
superintendent, super'isor of general instruction and principal in (11$.
I ha'e experience managing pro/ects, working with teachers, administrators, county, state, and
national committees on pro/ects that promote the professional de'elopment of the in'ol'ed
stakeholders.

students in grades *K 8 .. )his includes hiring teachers, ensuring a safe learning
en'ironment, e'aluation of assessment data to dri'e instruction, and pro'iding
professional de'elopment for faculty and staff. +s part of the transition to the new
school &uilding, I was responsi&le to plan pu&licity e'ents such as ri&&on cutting
ceremonies, open houses, and recognition of donors and 'olunteers. I also coordinated
the mo'e from the old school to the new &uilding. +t this time, we are working on

I was in charge of the mathematics curriculum and de'elopment for eight elementary, two
middle and two high schools in Jackson ounty. )his included teacher o&ser'ation,
modeling standards%&ased lessons, incorporating technology into the mathematics
classroom and the de'elopment and implementation of professional de'elopment
programs for county teachers. I also worked colla&orati'ely with the central office staff
to coordinate efforts regarding mathematics curriculum. I secured a grant for :ipley
Middle School to use the ;+S+ e%mission program to help students integrate science,
mathematics and real world experiences. )he position was eliminated due to a lack of
funding.
