District Assessments
Pre and Post SBAC Tests
All students in grades K-8 took a pretest at the beginning of the
school year. The test contained information that students will be expected to
know by the end of the school year. A posttest will be administered in June.
Students in kindergarten and first grade were given oral tests that were
administered by Mrs. Flynn, Wexler Grants Mathematics Coach. Teachers will
provide instruction to ensure that all students make the expected growth.

Quarterly Benchmarks
At the end of each quarter, students in grades 3-8 will be given an
assessment which contains questions based on that quarters concepts and
skills. It is important that students arrive to school on time, pay close
attention in class, and complete all homework assignments. This will enable
students to demonstrate proficiency in all concepts and skills covered that
quarter.

Fact Fluency Assessments
Beginning this year, students in grades 1-7 will be expected to
score at goal (80% accuracy) in their grade level fact fluency assessment
by June. This test will be administered three times per year. (October,
February, June) Each grade will focus on a different skills. Please
support your child at home. Studies show that students lacking in fact
fluency face serious challenges as they move from grade to grade.

instruction using one of the many programs offered by Math in Focus.
Gizmo is a new animated math program. Students in grades 5-8
use this program in their computer lab visits.
Wexler School has a mobile Eno Board that enables technology to
come directly to the classroom. All classrooms have reserved this impressive
piece of equipment to enhance mathematics instruction. Several classrooms
have been chosen to receive permanent Smartboards in their classroom.
Zero the Hero has been spotted in kindergarten classes on dates
that have a zero in them. Ask your child to tell you about the cape, zero
stick, song, and books that accompany each visit.
