Body: 1. Learning Activity Name: Duo tangs -Ask them to put their names on their duo tangs. Explain that when there is free time they can decorate their title page. Included in their duo tangs so far is your Ancient Athens survival guide, where we will be filing in all the terms needed to get your through this unit. The left column is for a definition the right is for either a drawing, or for you to put something you think will help me to remember these terms.
-We will be using the KWL chart later today.
-The current events outline shows you the days you are expected to bring in a current events article to present to the class. Your names have been placed on this calendar in alphabetical order. Current events will be first thing in the class on these dates. What is expected of you for current events is on the next page. Go over expectations. I will post the calendar of when you present your current events, but it is your responsibility to remember. -Go over expectations for current events -Teacher read current events from Greece if there is time
- Classroom expectations: just to review quickly if I ask you to hand anything in point to where that should go.
- You may have noticed that I have put up a Greek Fact of the day, watch words and an agenda. This is something I will try to get up every day just to give you some directions. Watch words are just something to keep your ears open to throughout the lesson because they are important terms or concepts. And they are there if you need help with spelling.
-Unit overview: 2 major projects, 1 test at the end, collect duo tangs 2 times for marks, exit slips
2. Quick Review! -Turn to your elbow partner and decide who is going to be A and who is B. A will go first and whisper to B what you think the definition of democracy is. Explain to them the 2 types of democracy (representative and direct). Dont let the people behind you hear. You have 2 minutes. 1 minute each then switch. -Now turn to the person behind you and tell them the 4 principles/pillars of democracy (frej). 1 minute each then switch.
-Please put the definitions that you have just discussed including the 4 principles of democracy in your ancient Athens survival guide. If you would like use the definition for democracy that is up on the board, but try and put that in your own words.
3. Learning Activity Name: Chapter focusing Questions. -Please write these questions in your duo tangs, these are the kinds of things we will be learning about throughout this unit. At the end of the unit you should be able to answer these questions so I would like you to leave some space between each question.
