2 Plan, structure and sequence learning programs

Descriptor Plan and implement well-structured learning and teaching programs or lesson sequences that engage students and promote
learning.
Rationale In order to ensure that educators are taking the most thoughtful approach possible so that the best possible outcomes for
studentsare achieved, panning and implementing well-structured learning and teaching programs is essential. Planned,
structured and sequenced learning programs are educators road maps of what students need to learn and how it will be
done effectively during the class time.
Examples
of
evidence
The units and lesson plans I have included thus far each demonstrate my knowledge of student leaning and engagement,
subject content, and effective teaching strategies, to develop appropriately structured learning sequences.
During my practicum at Altona P-9 College my mentor observed and gave feedback to many classes that I had
undertaken. Her observation notes and discussion records of lesson content and structure of a double session Year 7
English class demonstrate:
o planning and implementation of well-structured learning and teaching programs or lesson sequences
o students are engaged in interesting lessons

The diagram below shows the relationship between the aims of the teacher, the content to be taught and assessment
which guide the planning, structuring and sequencing of learning programs.
