The document outlines the steps to set protection relays for buildings and equipment, which includes preparing load calculations and maintenance manuals detailing critical equipment, operations, backups, faults studies, and load limits. It also involves identifying circuit breaker types, protection schemes, and commissioning procedures, as well as protections for transformers, such as differential current, restricted earth fault, voltage regulation, and overcurrent protections.

Sample of procedures & steps to set a protection Relays
1. Prepare a Load balance calculation report of all building and associated
major equipment. 2. Prepare an Integrated Maintenance & Operation manual for all Buildings and associated major equipment. That should include the following: a. Identify most Critical Equipment within the plant. b. Set a Plants Equipment Criticality sequence. c. Obtain all major motors modeling and starting Curves. d. Impedances and connection of Power equipment, System Frequency, voltage Level and Phase Sequence. e. Buildings & Major equipment Operation sequences. f. Back Up Procedure for all Building & Major Equipment g. System Fault study. h. Restart / Recovery Procedure. Functional system of all building and major Critical equipment. i. Maximum Load for each system and equipment and system swing limits. j. Single Line Diagram. 3. Identify Type of the Circuit Breakers. 4. Identify Standard Schemes for Protection & Control. 5. Commissioning Procedure for all building and each individual Equipment. 6. Transformer Protections shall be as follow: a. Differential Current Protection. b. Restricted Earth Fault c. Automatic Voltage regulators. d. Over Current Protection.
