In Week 9 (November 2

) we will be working on:
English:

Reading: Students will read Gus TAKES The Train
from the Journeys book.
Fun in the SUN and Bud from the decodable
story.
Phonics :short u and rhyming words.
Grammar: Action verbs with one or more than one
Writing: Students will write sentences using the
high frequency words from the story.

Math:

This week in Math we are continuing our work on
addition. We have been working with the children
to show them different methods of solving
counting on your fingers, drawing pictures, or
acting out a problem with manipulatives (ex.
coins). Encourage your child to use each of these
known methods. We will be working on solving
real-life problem involving addition. Whenever an
appropriate situation arises question your child
about simple sums ex. I am setting the table for
dinner. I have 3 plates out, how many more do we
need for our family of 6?

Science:

This week we will be reviewing our How Animals
are Different topic and practicing sorting animals
into their groups. We will also be reviewing all
topics we have learned this year (The 5 Senses,
Living and Nonliving, the Needs of Living Things
and How Animals are Different).

English Social Studies:

This week in Social Studies we will discuss our
favorite things - the things that we like the most.
For example, our favorite food, hobby, pet etc.

must drag the number of bouncy balls as shown in the question into the boxes then
count the total)

English: Read the decodable story My Pets from page 93 to 98. ( marks will be
taken)

Science: Practice the names of the animal groups, discuss their characteristics
and color the animals in the booklet provided.

Have your child use either a deck of cards (Royals removed) OR use the above
website (online deck of cards). Have them deal out 2 cards and add the value of
each card together. Have your child record the number sentence on a piece of
paper. Ex. He/she draws 6 and 2. Record on paper 6+2=8. Encourage them to use
their fingers to add the total as we have shown them, or they can draw pictures to
solve (6 dots and 2 dots, count the total).

English: Read Gus Takes The Train from the big Journeys book from page 113 to
page 124. Do page 64 in the English practice book.
