The following are your requirements for Writing Workshop as well as a guideline for grading.
To successfully complete Writing Workshop this nine weeks, you will have until December 19, 2014 to complete each of the following: 1 content specific piece (written from a prompt provided) 1 narrative story (writing a fiction story) 1 thematic analysis (write to analyze) OR 1 NaNoWriMo novel (write to entertain) 1 thematic analysis (write to analyze)
You must complete the entire writing process for each piece you write. The writing process includes: 1. Planning (10 points): Includes words or phrases to represent the thought process in writing for the chosen topic. Some writing pieces will require a specific type of planning. 2. First Draft (20 points): The first try at writing on the topic. Written in pencil or blue/black ink. Can be messy with crossed out words, phrases, or sentences. 3. Self-Revision/Edit (10 points): Must answer all questions or write N/A if a question does not apply. Please use N/A sparingly! Writer should make at least one change to Draft 1 as a result of self-revision/edit. 4. Peer Conference (10 points): Must answer all questions or write N/A (again, use N/A sparingly). Writer should make at least one change as a result of peer conference. 5. Second Draft (20 points): Must be typed. Writer should incorporate changes from the self-revision/edit and peer conference. Use spell check and grammar check to minimize errors. Indent all paragraphs and use correct punctuation and capitalization! 6. Teacher Conference (10 points): Evidence of teacher conference will be written on Second Draft. Always have your writing ready when waiting for a teacher conference. 7. Final draft/published piece (20 points): Pay close attention to editing marks and comments from teacher conference. Correct errors. To earn the full 20 points, you must follow through with all corrections and/or additions. We will do mini-lessons in class for each type of writing with handouts to add to your Interactive Notebook. All Writing Workshop information will also be put in your Interactive Notebook so you should always have it accessible. Upon completion of a piece, you may place it in the Completed Pieces file for final grading. Each phase of the writing process represented in your completed piece will be awarded points according to the scoring rubric above. Final grades for the completed pieces will be entered as Writing test grades.
