Dear Grade Two Parents,

I hope that you have all had a great week. We have been having such a great time
tuning in to our new unit Sharing the Planet
Here are some things we got up to this week:
Completed all MAP Testing that was either incomplete or testing that children
were absent for.
Practiced counting coins, telling the time, and used tens, ones and hundreds to
demonstrate our understanding of place value
We completed our reading of fiction text (for now)- next week- non-fiction
We practiced writing adjectives, irregular plural nouns and learned our spelling
rules
We started talking about our new unit. We did a pre-assessment to determine
our background knowledge, we looked at many different books on the subject of
animals and habitats, we brainstormed about our new unit and what we think we
might be learning about and much more! We are already using excellent
vocabulary to discuss our learning, such as pollution, environment, natural
habitats, etc.

In second grade next week:
LANGUAGE:
We are looking at non-fiction text and understanding the characteristic of non-
fiction text.
We will discuss the use of capital letters when writing proper nouns and
describing proper nouns using adjectives.

Accurately use irregular past tense verbs in sentences. Examples. sat, hid, ran

MATHEMATICS:
We will continue to practice place value
Explore geoboards.
We will gather data, enter data into tables and create bar charts

SCIENCE: We will begin to develop our interests on a particular habitat. Students will
work in groups to find out as much information about one habitat they are interested
in. They will eventually feedback this information to the class. They will be looking at
the animals that live there, the plants that grow there and any issues that their habitat
faces. Please encourage your child to think about a habitat which interests/excites
them.
Important Notices:
No swimming next week due to pool closure. The students will have PE instead
of swimming. Pool will reopen next Sunday November 9
th
we will keep you
posted if this changes.
Aladdin play is on Tuesday November 4
th
at from 12:30pm-1:30pm. Please make
sure you have sent the form and the money to your homeroom teacher if you
want your child to attend.
As you are aware the school is currently trying to implement a cashless system
where students will only be able to purchase food using their ID card. In the
meantime please ensure your child has a safe place to keep their money during
the school day.
