QUESTION 1
Construction can be hazardous business. When accident happened, the costs are high
affecting the people, profits and productivity. Discuss.

Principals are required to take 'all practicable steps' to ensure the health and safety of
people contracted by them to carry out of work of any kind throughout all stages of a
project. Discuss this statement by relating it to the roles of the client, designer and
contractor.

the following issues placing greater emphasis on the human element.

QUESTION 4
"... The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Director-General Datuk
Dr Johari Basri said 10 per cent of the 1,231 deaths in the workplace reported to the
Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) last year occurred at construction sites. Johari
said construction sites also accounted for the highest number of loss of limbs among
workers. In Johor, 41 per cent of 34 accidental deaths were reported last year, with most
of the victims falling from tall buildings... "(News Straits Times, 18 July 2011).
Discuss the above scenario by relating it to the management of health and safety plan in
construction site.
