To the managers and the HR dept.

:
We are writing this letter in order to clear the issue on what had happened last Friday, September 19th
2014.
As we all know, early morning of the said date, Typhoon Mario was already within the Philippines and
we had experienced its effects as early as 2 in the morning. Come noon, most roads have been flooded
and deemed non-passable as what was seen on news programs.
We were informed then by our TLs through text messages that the management decided not to call off
work and gave the option that we can use our Service Incentive Leaves if we cannot really go to work.
Although we see this action as a kind of consideration for the teachers, we also strongly feel that this is
not justifiable. One obvious question that we cannot avoid but ask is this- what about teachers who do
not have any SIL credits and are worried that their incentives will be affected, specifically their Perfect
Attendance Incentive (PAI)? Also, we are under the impression that the use of SILs are discretionary,
meaning it is to be used if the teachers want to, not because we are forced to, due to calamities.
28 full time teachers from the PM shift were not able to go to work last Friday, September 19 2014. Out
of those 28, only 11 have SIL credits. We have not counted those working from the AM shift, the BS
shift, and part-timers.
The teachers last Friday were willing and able to work, but were not able to because of circumstances
out of our hands. This is a clear case of Force Majeure.
From here, we would like to ask the management to consider our demands:
1. That teachers, with or without SIL credits will be paid for the day that they were not here.
2. That the teachers who were able to come to work be given additional compensation.
3. That the teachers who were not able to come to work be assured that their incentives (PAI) will not
be taken from them.
4. That the management should devise a calibrated and precise policy on how to handle situations like
this, wherein teachers are not able to work because of situations and circumstances out of our hands ie.
Force Majeure.
5. That the management provide teachers with calamity leaves, only to be used under such situations,
outside of the law-mandated service incentive leaves.
Thank you very much and we await your response.
