School Profile
The Community
Indian Creek High School, a part of the Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson United School Corporation, serves the communities of Trafalgar
and Nineveh in Johnson County and Morgantown in Morgan County. Situated twenty miles south of Indianapolis, the location
provides a healthy blend of the traditional attitudes, beliefs, and values found in a rural setting with the progressive influence of a
metropolitan area. The occupational force varies widely with many people traveling to larger surrounding communities for
employment. The many school-community initiatives indicate a strong commitment to preparing students for post-secondary
education and the workforce.
The School
Indian Creek High School, a four-year public high school accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the
State of Indiana, operates on a two semester, four grading period system. The Fall 2014 enrollment of 606 students includes a senior
class of 150. The student/faculty ratio is 17:1, and the student/counselor ratio is 303:1. The school's library houses a computer lab of
thirty-three PCs in its main lab. Through the library, teachers may also schedule the curriculum lab, which contains thirty-two PCs,
and the language arts lab, which has twenty-four computers, bringing the total of non-classroom computers available to classes to 89.
Teachers and students use these to access several filtered databases sponsored by the library and the school corporation. In addition to
computer databases, the library contains over 12,500 books and networks with the Johnson and Morgan County Public Libraries for
additional resources. Subscriptions to local newspapers and twenty-six magazines complete the collection.
The Faculty
Indian Creek High Schools 2014-2015 faculty consists of 34.5 teachers.
The Students
Indian Creek High School students are friendly, polite, and wholesome. The ethnic minority population constitutes less than 4 percent
of the student body. Approximately 25 percent of the high school student body in 2012-2013 participated in Indianas Free and
Reduced Lunch program based on income eligibility. The 2012-2013 graduation rate was 93.3 percent and the average daily
attendance for 2012-2013 was 95.2%. Eighty-six percent of the 2014 graduates planned to attend a post-secondary institution and 25
percent earned one of the Core 40 with Academic/Technical Honors Diploma while 51 percent earned the Indiana CORE 40 Diploma.
The Class of 2014 earned scholarship money totaling $1,256,112.00. Many students participate in a variety of student activities
including 12 co-curricular clubs and 16 athletic teams.
Academic Program
Indian Creek High School endeavors to prepare all of its students for admission to an Indiana public post-secondary institution
following graduation. Students are strongly encouraged to pursue either an Indiana Core 40 Diploma, Core 40 with Academic Honors
Diploma or a CORE 40 with Technical Honors Diploma. Students who want to pursue a General Diploma, must complete an Opt-Out
form with his/her counselor no earlier than the end of his/her Junior year. Agriculture, industrial technology, health sciences, and
business career clusters are available to all students, and these may be applied to the directed electives area of the Indiana CORE 40
requirements. Students may also choose to participate in one of 40 vocational education programs at Central Nine Career Center in
Greenwood.
Daily Schedule
Indian Creek High School employs a block 8 schedule. Classes meet in 87-minute blocks with each class meeting every other day. A
60-minute homeroom/resource period called IRP meets daily. This time is used for resource, study, remediation, club meetings, and
one on one student teacher interaction.
