Students

recognize

Ladybugs
can
be
found
all
over
the
world
and
be
able
to
recognize
that
there
are
many
different
species.
And
recognize
important
characteristics.
Materials
Needed:
Power
point
Presentation
Computer
Projector
Red
and
black
construction
paper
Brads
Markers
Black
pipe
cleaners
Glue
Scissors
Pre-Lesson:
Before
the
activity
we
will
discuss
Ladybugs
and
look
at
a
ladybug
power
point
that
includes
information
about
Ladybugs
appearance,
life
cycles
and
mannerisms.
Examples
of
pre
activity
questions
we
can
ask
include:
Do
all
ladybugs
look
alike?
What
colors
do
they
come
in?
About
how
many
kinds
do
you
think
you
might
find
in
one
place?
Teach
vocabulary
words
by
showing
pictures
on
a
powerpoint
and
discussing
the
pictures
as
a
class.
Introduce
the
face
that
Bio/diversity
means
Bio=life
and
diversity
=
many
different
kinds.
So
biodiversity
means
many
different
kinds
of
life.
Activity:
Taking
the
tools
we
have
in
our
materials
pile
students
will
make
ladybugs
that
will
be
able
to
open
their
wings
and
share
facts.
Students
will
first
build
the
ladybug
and
then
write
an
interesting
fact
on
the
inside,
under
the
ladybugs
wings.
This
project
will
be
put
on
display
for
the
entire
class
and
parents
to
see.
The
students
fact
will
be
written
on
the
Ladybugs
abdomen
underneath
the
moveable
wings.
This
activity
will
require
students
to
choose
their
favorite
fact
about
ladybugs
in
order
to
put
a
fact
on
the
abdomen.
Engage
in
discussion
with
the
class
on
observing
particular
ladybugs
look:
identify
body
parts;
colors
of
wings,
head,
antenna;
color,
size,
shape,
number
and
placement
of
spots.
Then
compare
to
other
ladybugs.
Vocabulary
that
we
will
focus
on
are:
Pronotum,
Elytra,
Rare,
Common,
Native,
Introduced,
Biodiversity,
Abdomen
and
Conservation
Rationale
for
this
lesson:
To
teach
children
about
ladybugs
and
their
life
cycles,
parts
of
their
bodies,
what
they
eat
and
how
they
live.
Students
will
be
able
to
