Research Project

North Carolina History Museum

Dear Families,
We are excited to integrate social studies and English Language Arts with a research project about the
history of North Carolina. Students will select a person, place, event, or tribe from our state to investigate
and then present a project about what they learned. The project will be due Thursday, December 18th.
Please help your child find and print resources from the Internet, books from home, or the public library.
The Fourth Grade Team will provide the format that the research should follow. The project will consist of
two parts: a research paper and a visual of the selected topic.
We will have a North Carolina History Museum tour and breakfast on December 18 th to showcase the
students projects.

The research paper will be written in class; however, it is important that the students come to English
Language Arts prepared with resources to conduct their research. They will need at least 3 extremely
strong resources so the students have enough information for their report. If you cannot find enough,
choose a different topic. This should be done before the November 14 th. We will be able to provide some
computer time and book sources, but the majority of searching for resources should be completed
at home.
Below is a list of topics from which the students may choose. Please help your child select one to begin
the search for resources. If your child has another idea for their project, they must get it approved by
their ELA teacher. All selections must be made by Friday, November 14th. Please bring all resources by
Monday, November 17th as we will be using them in class that day to begin gathering information.
Thank you for your support,
The Fourth Grade Team
