1. Standards/Objectives:
RL.K.10: Actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and
understanding
2. Teaching model: Whole group direct instruction
3. Objectives: Kindergarten students will be able to engage in a group reading
activity given they pay attention to the reading and are actively engaged in fully
completing their own introductory poster. Kindergarten students must also be able
to recall one thing they learned from their teachers or peers to master meet this
standard.
-Prerequisite learning/key concepts: Students must know prior knowledge about
themselves. Students should be able to recall their age, and information about
themselves as well as their family. Kindergarten students must also have prior
knowledge of how to hold a pencil/crayon in order to complete the poster.
4. Materials and/or Technology Resources
-My Teachers Secret Life by: Stephen Krensky
-Introductory poster of myself
-Introductory poster (26) for students
-Crayons, pencils, markers, etc.
5. Procedures (Content Area Specific)
-Have all students sit on the rug for whole group instruction
(20 mins whole group instruction)
-Introduce myself again and let students know I will be with them for the entire year
-Share that I want to read them a book and then tell them a little bit more about
myself
-Read My Teachers Secret Life by: Stephen Krensky
-Ask students; do you think I have a secret life? How so?
-Share my introductory poster with them (Included is: my favorite color, favorite
food, my age, what my family looks like, what I look like, what I want to be when I
grow up, my favorite place to visit etc.)
-Mrs. Glover shares her introduction poster with the class as well
-We both will hang our introductory posters on the window for students to visit and
see at all times
-Ask students if they have any questions or if they want to share some of their
favorite things
-Each student will receive their own poster and bring it to their desk where they will
take out their crayons/pencils/markers. (10 minutes)

-I will have another blank introductory poster hanging on the front board so I can
read to them what age box says.
-Essentially I will be demonstrating how to complete the poster step by step.
-Closure: Share with your classmates at your table something about you. Learn
something new from each of your friends! Show your table the pictures you drew
etc.
*Hang posters around the room for back to school night
-Extension: Students may take home another poster to complete at home with their
family and include photographs etc.
6. Modifications and Accommodations: If students can not write their name, age,
favorite items, teacher may write the correct information for student. Students that
can not properly hold a pencil may use pencil grips to help hold writing utensil
properly.
7. Student Assessment/Evaluation:
Formative Assessment: (Lemov Strategy-Exit Ticket- I will use the exit ticket as a
verbal assessment rather than written. While students line up for lunch, each
student must share one thing they learned about me, Mrs. Glover or another
classmate today. This will assess that students were paying attention and learned
something new about their teachers this year.)
-Collecting students introductory posters will also allow me to assess if students are
able to write their name, if students are able to write numbers for their age, I can
assess students letters formation and who may need additional one-on-one
teaching.
8. Homework: No homework necessary because lesson objectives were mut during
class time.
