The Master Minds

Why is the topic important?
- Natural disasters are important because they happen all over the world. Natural
disasters come in many forms; from tsunamis to wildfires to earthquakes. A
natural disaster can cause loss of life or property damage, and causes cities to
have economic damage. Some natural disasters, like earthquakes, can have
disastrous consequences. It can also leave lasting damage, which could take
years to repair.
Initial evidence, research, cited visuals and graphics, hyperlinks, etc(you will build on this
during the quarter. Share what you have so far.)
- millions of people are affected
- natural disasters: tornados, earthquakes, wildfires, tsunamis, etc
How did your league decide on your topic? How did you come to a consensus? What
strategies did you use to decide?
- We decided on the topic of natural disasters because we thought it was fit for our
superheroes to help solve. We came to an agreement on doing natural disasters
because our powers would help with the situation that comes from natural
disasters. What we would do if these natural disasters would happen is to use
our power to help, obviously, but what we are going to do with the power is what
Im going to tell you. Megan, would change the course, or divert the disaster from
happening, such as tornado, hurricane, or a typhoon. Ivy would tell all the people
in that area to go and get to safety as fast as they can, like in an underground
bunker (tornado), or a high hill (tsunami) , or under a table (earthquake) by using
her power of telepathy. Daniel would also help people get to safety or evacuate
the citizens. Plus he could help and heal the people afterwards with his ability to
heal people by his power . Cassidy could make the people see that everything is
okay so they dont freak out and get hurt by using her power of illusion. By doing
that the people would be more calm and leave or get to places safer, without
shoving each other or anything. This is how we would all help the people if a
natural disaster happened.

Revised list of questions that builds on the list from the initial problem statement.
Questions:
- How can we raise awareness to inform people about natural disasters?
- How can we prepare for natural disasters?
- Where would the safety shelters be in a city?
- What can communities do to make sure every citizen is accounted for?
- What should you do when earthquakes, fires, floods, etc. occur?

Every student must contribute at least 1 possible real-life solution to the problem in a paragraph
about possible solutions. This paragraph will, therefore, have multiple colors of highlights.
There are many different ways to keep everyone safe if the event of a natural disaster occurs.
One solution to a natural disaster is to find shelter as soon as you can and stay away from
anything that can or may hurt you. Also another way to be safe in a natural disaster is to be calm
and prepared for any natural disaster. You should also always have a first aid kit and food that
won't go bad somewhere you can get to it easily. The world deals with natural disasters
repeatedly. We know the precautions of these disasters and what to do when one occurs. In real
life, if the event that occurred had been tremendous, there would be search teams looking for
potential survivors. We would have helicopters circling the area and officers helping people out.
Everyone would be seeking shelter and waiting until further notice. This type of situation doesnt
need a superhero to fix it because our world already has heroes. Firemen, officers, volunteers
and so much more. They are our superheroes. Another thing we could do when a natural
disaster occurs is to be careful after the natural disaster happens. When a natural disaster
strikes many things would have fallen down and it would be very dangerous if you were to light a
flame and the gas tank fell down. You could also be careful about what you drink because a
substance might have leaked into the water during the natural disaster. For example, you should
throw away food that has touched the flood waters because there may be some bacteria in it that
is dangerous to the body. One other real life solution that we could do is have a good sturdy
shelter for all types of natural disasters, such as a sturdy building on a tall large hill, for floods. Or
we could make a large bunker underground for tornadoes. Plus we could have some random
open space with nothing around it, for earthquakes. With these people could be safe when there
is a natural disaster.

Problem Statement:
Natural disasters are very dangerous and can occur anywhere in the world at any
time. They can cause great damage and even loss of lives. Natural disasters affect
millions of people every year. There are many different kinds of natural disasters from
earthquakes to tornadoes. Many natural disasters are very dangerous to humans but
some disasters also enrich the Earth. For example, a volcanic eruption enriches the soil
in the ground and make the ground great for growing crops. Another example are
earthquakes because after they move the tectonic plates they build mountains and also
at the fault lines many minerals grow.
My super power is weather manipulation. I can contribute to the solution of natural
disasters by manipulating weather so that the natural disaster will die down or move
away from civilization. For example, if the natural disaster is wildfire I can make it rain on
the fire so it will eventually die down. Also I can also make it rain if there is a huge
drought, like the one we are having now in California. There are a many number of ways
I can help to a solution of a natural disasters. Another thing I can do is to create strong
winds to slow down a typhoon or a hurricane. For instance, Typhoon Vongfong was the
biggest tropical storm that hit Japan in 2014 and also affected the Philippines and
Taiwan with wind speeds that reached up to 138 mph and produced very heavy rainfall.
Typhoon Vongfong had left wide spread devastation included 2 people dead and at least
70 injured. Those are just some of the many ways I can help stop natural disasters with
my ability to manipulate the weather.
My superhero power is the ability to create illusions. I can help make people think
they're in a safe environment when they are in danger. For example, if there is a huge
tsunami peoples first reaction is to run away from the water as fast as they can, which
is a good idea but they should search for shelter as fast as they can on high ground.
Another thing I could do is to help people when the 8.0 or greater magnitude earthquake
hits California because of the San Andreas Fault, is help them see a soothing sight.
When the Earth feels like its going to crack, your first instinct is to run out of your house
and into the street. Where light poles, trees, or power lines can fall on you and can cut
off your circulation and then youll be dead. Also, during a flood I could imagine that the
water level is lower than it really is. As a result, people wont freak out and it would be
harder for someone to drown.

My power includes the ability to communicate with others using my mind. This can
be very useful in a situation where people need to be warned about the dangers that lie
ahead. An example would be when a tsunami is raging towards a city, I can use my
telepathy to warn the people and get them to evacuate before the water strikes. It would
be quick and it is faster than sending out distress calls. Another example would be if
there was going to be a major blizzard happening, I can tell everyone to prepare and
retrieve supplies. My power has many uses and its an excellent communicating tool
because not everyone uses cell phones or radios. By sending out warnings, I can save
a persons life.
My superpower is to control the human mind and body with music. Some people
might think that my power is unhelpful, but it isnt. For example, if there was a tornado
and someone got hurt afterward, I could heal their body with my music. Its not just one
person at a time though. If I wanted to I could heal mass amounts of people by playing
music to a crowd. Also if there was an earthquake, before I heal them I could also help
evacuate the other people safely and calmly, like Cassidy here. Also if my comrades get
hurt or injured I could heal them too. I also play great classical music. Just what some
people need after a long day of saving the world, or state, or city, or nevermind. The
fact is my power is not useless. It can be both uncanny and comforting sometimes or at
the same time, it helps people.
In conclusion, natural disasters can occur any where and any time in the world. We
picked this topic because our super powers are compatible with one another. We all
contribute to different parts of the solution since we all have different powers. Our powers
work well together which is very convenient because we can create plans for different
disasters easily (tsunami plan, earthquake plan, hurricane plan, etc). We solve world
problems one step at a time, well technically four because there is four of us, but
whatever. Together we can do anything.
