Globalization Proposal
1)
One of my topics is about the side effects of technology, and Im looking into the
privacy, moral/ ethical issues, and the effect of tech on children. In terms of privacy, I vaguely
know about Edward Snowdens NSA leak. The leaked documents show how the government is
anonymously collecting huge amounts of data from the public, spying on other countries (such as
tapping their phone calls). Ethical issues include net neutrality, censorship (China, Turkey, &
Egypt), and gender discrimination and diversity in the tech fields. Technology and people has
been a long-term feud in society. In one particular case, there is an issue of exposure of
technology to young children. The question is whether its the best teaching method or is the
traditional way better. Another current affair is technology in other countries. Governments are
arguing about necessity (is it important that other countries get internet and phones or more so to
first help develop the countries by other means).
My second topic is about the tech industry. I am attempting to research the relationship
between healthcare and technology such as how were making care and treatments more
accessible to anyone and anywhere. Startup companies are also a big deal in healthcare. For
example, there are startups that are trying to connect patients and doctors through a Skype-like
interface. Others are attempting to build long-distance operations/ surgeries (doctors in one place
use robotic tech to perform a surgery on people in other places).
2) As a computer science major, I have a natural leaning and interest towards knowing and
learning more about technology.
3)
1) How does tech influence and shape healthcare industry?
2) What is more important to developing countries? Technology or other support?
3) How do spread interest in STEM everywhere?
4) Do we need humanoids/ robots?
5) What are the effects of social media on children?
6) Why does privacy matter?
7) Is net neutrality beneficial?
8) What are the different tech and healthcare startups and what are they doing?
9) How does technology diffuse culture and ideas around the world?
10) What is the latest tech does each country have?
11) How does the tech in each country reflect the economy and status?
12) What is STEM?
4) Questions 2 & 9
5) Startup company websites, .gov websites, WikiLeaks, WHO articles, Business Insider,
congress opinions, activist group websites
6) The future and impact of tech and tech in healthcare

7) Instead of focusing solely on technology, I would start looking more into the healthcare
industry of different countries
