For fifteen years, I was a staff developer for a high school district in Glendale, Arizona. I was responsible for the professional development of the first, second and third year teachers new to the district and my school. The focus of the work was to help novice teachers implement best practices in instruction and classroom management. The district defined best practice in instruction as Madeline Hunters Essential Elements of Instruction. For management strategies the work of Dr. Harry Wong and Dr. Fred Jones were taught. Currently I am employed in the CTEL Program at Arizona State University, supervising student teachers, as well as teaching a variety of education classes. In addition, I am a partner in a professional development business, P2. Yvonne Lawson was a student in SED 464, Middle School Curriculum and Organization. She was attentive, on task and produced quality work. Ms. Lawson was punctual and attended class regularly. As part of the classroom curriculum Yvonne was asked to teach multiple lessons in front of her peers. She was well planned and executed the lessons well. It was clear that she has fundamental skills needed to be a successful teacher. Her lessons were aligned to the objective and contained multiple active participation strategies. She continually checked for understanding and praised her students to celebrate success. This motivated her students as well and facilitating retention. Yvonne Lawson works well with her peers and is responsive to constructive criticism. She is professional in appearance and practice.
Sincerely,
