COURSE DESCRIPTION: Marketing is a fast-paced course
that allows students to practice the elements of marketing
basics. Students will experience many different parts of the
marketing
process
including
advertising,
sales,
merchandising,
human
relations,
management,
&
communication.
Marketing includes participating in a lab (servicing customers in the school store) to assist with the
learning of operating a small business. Food handler cards are required to work in the school store. A
standard Food Handler's card can be obtained for $13, which will also allow you to work in other food
establishments outside of the school store. A volunteer Food Handler's card can be obtained for a minimal

Advanced Marketing can be taken as a junior or senior and is a co-op course. Students report to 3rd hour
Advance Marketing & then receive credit (up to 4 credits) for work hours outside of class. The employer
participates in the student's grade. Work assignments can be obtained through the marketing teacher.

CLASS GUIDELINES:
1. Business-like behavior is expected at all times.
2. Candy, food, gum, and drinks are not allowed in the classroom at any time.
3. Computer lab guidelines are strictly enforced. Computer abuse will not be tolerated.
4. Be a team player and do your share of the work when working with others.
5. Use your time between classes wisely. No passes will be given for the first or last ten minutes of
class. This class simulates a business work environment.
6. Make-up work needs to be completed per district policy.

GRADING:
Grades will be based upon the total points available for the semester. Grades must be earned! The
following is a breakdown of grade determination:
A = 90 100
40% - Class work, homework, programs, participation, & study guides
B = 80 89
40% - Tests, labs/School Store, and projects
C = 70 79
20% - Course assessment
D = 60 - 69
Cheating will NOT be tolerated and a ZERO will be given for that assignment to everyone involved.
Cheating includes, but is not limited to:
Turning in someone else's work as your own
Signing on with another student's user ID and password
Giving your user ID and password to another student
Doing another student's work for them
Using any electronic device, such as a cell phone, e-mail, etc. to pass information to another
student
Plagiarism will NOT tolerated. Please cite all sources properly. We will review this information during
class. You may ask for help if you need it.

EXTRA CREDIT: is given only if ALL assignments to date are completed and the student is still having
difficulty with a skill or concept. Extra credit is not a substitute for regular assignments.
COMPUTER LAB PROCEDURES: All student work should be saved to their H drive. If data is saved
to the C drive, it is accessible to anyone who logs into that computer.
ACCEPTABLE USE OF SCHOOL COMPUTERS STUDENTS:
Acceptable use of the electronic information services requires that the use of these resources be in
accordance with the guidelines and support the educational goals of Peoria Unified School District.
Students MUST follow the Guidelines to the Peoria Unified School District's Acceptable Use Policy.
Summary: Students will be held responsible for their actions. Your actions may be monitored and
tracked while using school computers or computer network. Do NOT download inappropriate or
copyrighted material. Do NOT disclose personal information about yourself, your family, or others.
Notify your teacher IMMEDIATELY if you receive a communication or access a website that is
inappropriate.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
Since this class is a simulation of a business environment, the following workplace behaviors are
expected on a daily basis:
Be in your assigned seats before the last bell rings
Be productive and prepared with the appropriate materials
Be dressed appropriately according to the school dress code and have your school ID
Follow all instructions
Clean up your workstation and computer
Remain in your seats until you are dismissed by the teacher (NOT the bell)
CLASS WEB SITE:
Moodle will be utilized to provide students with their content and many resources. The assignments,
presentations, and DECA paperwork will be posted on Moodle under the link: "Marketing/Lawson".
LOGGING IN:
Begin at the district's main web page www.peoriaud.k12.az.us and click on the blue button labeled
"Students". Click on the "Moodle" button. Next, click on the "login" and enter "PUSD11/your login
name" and your password. You will be familiar with the class site in short time. This can be accessed at
home through the Internet along with your student e-mail account. (Ex: jdoe1234@student.pusd11.net)
Note: You will NOT be allowed to access the computer until both you and your parents read and sign the
Acceptable Use Policy and turn it in.
DECA: Because you are in this class, you are automatically a member of DECA. Whether or not you
choose to attend meetings and participate is up to you. DECA helps students develop skills and
competencies for marketing careers, builds self-esteem, provides a chance to experience leadership, and
perform community services. DECA is committed to the advocacy of marketing education and growth of
business/education partnerships. Active participants will have the opportunity to compete with other
students and schools, win scholarships, participate in community service projects, attend meetings, attend
in state and out-of-state conferences, manage fundraisers, and participate in professional development
activities during class.
