RED light in ON position, one YELLOW light in caution and a


GREENcolour light in proceed aspect both by day and night in colour light and
only during night in Semaphore.
2. The Semaphore arm is painted in RED with WHITE band parallel to the square
end.
3. When the signal arm is horizontal it is ON position both in TAS and MAS.
4. In TAS when taken OFF the signal arm will rotate 45O to 60O below the
horizontal
5. In MAS it has two OFF positions namely caution and proceed. In caution aspect
the arm will rotate 45O above the horizontal and in case of proceed aspect it will
rotate to 90O above the horizontal.
6. The driver has to observe the position of the arm during day and signal light
during night..
7. When advanced starter is not available, the starter shall be the LSS of the station
and it shall be interlocked with the station block instrument.
8. Where advanced starter is provided, the starter is known as free starter {which is
not interlocked with block instrument} and it can be taken OFF for shunting
purpose.
9. When starter is LSS, it shall not be taken OFF for shunting and calling on signal
also will not be provided below such starter.
10. Where a single starter is provided for a group of two or more converging lines, it
is called as COMMON STARTER.
11. The common starter will be normally located at a distance of NLT 180 meters in
TAS and NLT 120 meters in MAS from outermost trailing points.
12. If a starter is provided between first starter and advanced starter at a converging
junction protecting the points it is called as INTERMEDIATE STARTER.
13. If a bracketed or a single arm with a route indicator is provided at diverging, it is
called as ROUTING STARTER.
14. When it fails, the points the points detected by it shall be treated as non
interlocked and such points shall be clamped and pad locked before allowing any
movement over such points.

15. When starter is defective T.369{3b}+PHS is authority and if it is LSS,


PLCT+PHS is the authority to the driver to pass in ON position
16. When driver passes the Starter partly and stops the train. The driver shall be given
Re-start memo counter signed by the Guard+T.369 {3b} + PHS to start the train.
17. If the starter is LSS and driver passes partly, along with Re-start memo
PLCT+PHS shall be given as an authority to start the train.
