Season Exploration
Non Print: videos, photos, audio
With this season activity, our kindergarteners will meet LPS Standards. For this lesson,
our students will meet K.3.1, K.3.2, and K.3.3 Science Standards, within the Seasons
Science Objectives. They will learn how to observe daily weather changes, name the four
seasons in sequence, and describe seasonal changes. Our Popplet title will identify our
subject matter seasons and from there they will be able to see the titles of the four
seasons Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall and this will help them know the seasons in
sequence. The surrounding popples show weather changes freezing temperatures, rain,
snow, wind, etc. students will identify these changes and match them with the
corresponding season. The students will be able to observe and identify the seasons as
well as seasonal changes with the provided text, audio, and photos.
This lesson will guide the kindergarteners in learning, exploring, and understanding the
four seasons. Students will be able to visually observe, identify, and categorize seasonal
changes. They will also be able to listen and view audio and video that correspond with
the seasons. They will then connect the audio and visuals to the correct seasons. We want
the students to be able to meet the standards with the help of Popplet which is naming,
identifying, and observing the seasons and seasonal changes. Not only do we want the
students to meet the Standards, but we also want them to love and appreciate the four
seasons!
The Smartboard will be our main source of technology, which means we will also need a
computer and internet access to Popplet!
Objective 1: Students will observe daily weather changes with the help of photos of rain,
wind, storms, etc.
Objective 2: Students will be able to name the four seasons in sequence with the help of
our main popples Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall.
Objective 3: Students will be able to describe seasonal change with the help of our photos
of weather and nature and our videos of seasonal sounds.
Objective: Students will be able to successfully relate memories and ideas to specific
seasons.
The students will not need any preparation just an open mind, creative imagination, a
winning attitude, and a readiness to learn and explore! They will be asked to recall
memories from the seasons, so past experience with the seasons would be beneficial but
certainly not necessary.

Measurement
of Success

Students will meet every level of Blooms Taxonomy:

Remember: Students must recall memories, ideas, and information relating to the seasons
(before and after the Popplet presentation).
Understand: Students must compare and explain the seasonal videos and photos.
Apply: Students must organize the photos and videos in relation to the four seasons.
Analyze: Students must discover new items that relate to the seasons and share them in
our class discussion (holidays, senses, etc.).
Evaluate: Students must explain and share a memory from a favorite season they will
show their understanding by their supporting memory.
Create: Students will choose their favorite season and creating a photo and illustrating a
story about it.
1: To begin our lesson, we will ask the students if they can name the seasons. We will
dive into seasonal discussion as the students name them.
2: After recalling on past information and previous season knowledge, we will then
present the seasons in a new way (perhaps for the first time for some students) with our
Popplet.
3: We will explain the lesson goal, which is to identify and remember the four seasons by
exploring the given audio and photos
4: Next, we will examine each popple (watch the videos, listen to audio, and view photos)
5: Students will then be asked to brainstorm new season ideas that we can add to our
Popplet (holidays, more weather changes, senses, etc.)
6: We will then match the popples to their corresponding seasons as a group the
students will be able to come up to the Smartboard and make the connections themselves
7: Once our Popplet is complete and connected, we will discuss our discoveries relating to
each season
8: Students will be asked to close their eyes and think of their favorite season and be
ready to explain and share their favorite season and WHY (memories, thoughts, etc.)
9: Students will be able to ask any questions they have about the seasons
10: A piece of paper with a blank space on the top for illustrating and penmanship lines
on the bottom for writing. Students will be asked to color a picture and write three
sentences about their favorite season
11: The students will then share their stories and photos with the class!
12: Students will leave the classroom with a better understanding of the seasons and the
ability to label, identify, and categorize all four of them!
We will measure the students success by observing their responses to our questions about
the seasons. Their ability to connect their memories, senses, and holidays to the seasons
will allow us to measure their success as well. Our worksheet will also measure success
because we will able to visually identify their understanding of their favorite season and
their corresponding applications. The students new understanding and knowledge of the
seasons will be carried with them for the rest of their lives due to the fact that the seasons
are a part of our everyday life!
