Summary (No less than 10 sentences for full credit)

In an interview with German television broadcasted late last Sunday, Vladimir Putin
explains that be believes it is completely possible for peace to be brought upon Russia and
East Ukraine, but neither sides of this war they have been fighting is holding up the truce
they struck in September. Russian rebels have been fighting Kyivs troops in the conflict
that has killed off over 4,000 people since last March. President Putin also proceeded to
mention that neither of the countries soldiers have been completely withdrawn from the
key locations in the area so that a buffer zone could be made, which was the main part of
the truce that had been made. He completely blames the Ukrainian soldiers for this
incident, saying that they are setting a bad example to follow for the Russian rebels. He
states, It is true that there are certain settlements that the armed rebel formations
should abandon, and they are not being abandoned. After being asked if the Russian
rebels were becoming armed, he also replied that anyone waging a fight that they believe
fair will find weapons. He explained that he believes without the rebels being armed, they
would quickly become destroyed by Ukrainian forces, something Russia doesnt desire, or
will allow. He also began to lash out due to the far right nationalist elements in Ukraine and
against what the city of Moscow looks at as the repression of Russian-speakers in the
region of the Ukraine. He states, Ill say this bluntly: were concerned that the desire
could arise to use ethnic cleansing. Were afraid about a draft toward Neo-Nazism in the
area. He doesnt want to see Russian influence become lost in the mist of everything going
on in the Ukraine. The EU is looking for ways to assist the Ukraine in implementing
economic and institutional reforms. The fighting and chaos could return at any given
moment with the tension that is arising due to these problems that are being found.

Reaction (Must include evidence of point of view and/or bias and/or understanding of
article; no less than 6 sentences for full credit)
I believe that Putin is saying things in order to place fear in the countries. Nobody knows
what is being planned, or when war is going to possibly start up again, and thats a very
scary thought. The fact that Putin believes that there is still a possibility for peace is a
very positive thing, and I think that will give people hope in some sense. However, theres a
lot that will need to be done in order for peace to be put in place, and I think that each
country needs to work together on this truce that was created in September if thats
what they want to happen. Already 4,000 lives were lost, which is way too many for a war
like this one. The country needs to find a place where they can both be happy, and I hope
that at some point soon this happens. I wish that I had also heard from the leaders of the
Ukraine in this article so that I could compare the way the two countries are thinking, but
I hope that he and Putin begin to look at the same page of they outlook on the Ukraine
Crisis.
