Hotel accommodation is an important sector of tourism. There are many hotels in this
industry and therefore there are many classes of hotels. Sheraton Starwood Hotels and Resorts is
one of the leading hotel and leisure companies in the world. Starwood is a fully integrated owner
and operates many franchises and hotel brands in Canada and all around the world. Sheraton also
has the best customer service loyalty program and puts customers needs first. On the other hand,
The Delta Hotel is a chain of 40 hotels and resorts across Canada and is classified as a four star
hotel. The Delta Hotel was founded in 1962 in Richmond, British Columbia with a single 62
room inn; its current CEO is Kenneth Greene. Deltas branding includes the Delta reward
program. The two hotels we visited were Sheraton and Delta hotels, which are first class or
superior hotels. To clarify, the first class or superior hotel category as follows: Hotel offer
outstanding comfort and decor, a highly trained and competent staff and excellent food and
beverage facilities. A typical superior hotel has at least one luxury suite, two dining rooms and
cocktail lounge. These hotels are full-service properties with well-appointed guest rooms that
include a safe, a mini bar, and bathroom amenities. Many offer the business traveler access to
faxes and copiers. Rate is typically 75-300 per night. There are generally three or four star or
diamond properties (Hotel Rooms). The two hotels we have visited will be discussed in this
paper.

Sheraton

Sheraton Starwood hotels and resorts is one of the leading hotel and leisure companies it
has more than 1,200 properties in 100 countries and 181,400 employees.

Sheraton has the best customer service loyalty program and puts customers needs first.

Sheraton Hotel is first class or superior hotel.

Sheraton hotel is located at Richmond Hill and Highway 7. It is a four star hotel which
provides 312 rooms with full-service and a Convention Centre.

Hotel offers many facilities and amenities such as a restaurant, Starbucks Coffee Shop,
spa, swimming pool, gym, and gift shop

Price rage form $139 to $899 per night per room. Sheraton usually fills approximately
150 rooms per night. Recently the hotel has offered a third night for free when the guest
book two consecutive nights at any participating Sheraton or Four Points by Sheraton on
Thursday, Friday or Saturday for a three night stay.

Sheratons target markets are business travelers, corporate clients, family and sport
groups.

Sheraton provides full service accommodations such as fine dining and amenities.

For the business travelers, Sheraton offers the link at Sheraton SM experiences with
Microsoft Office, free Wi-Fi and computers, printers and a place for an informal meeting.

High Speed internet is also available at the price of $7.99 per day.

Sheraton also offers a shuttle to the clients if their house is within 5 kilometers of the
hotel.

Sheraton not only offers a choice of a venue for meeting, incentives and social events for
all group sizes but it also provides babysitting services through hotel staff or bonded
service Sheraton promotes its hotel through word of mouth, Sheraton and Starwood
websites, and third party websites such as Expedia, and Travelocity.

The Sheraton generally does well for its decoration, when guests enter the hotel they feel
the warmth and the friendless, and luxury because of the public space which was

decorated very well to attract customers. For example, the washroom is very clean and
well decorated and the waiting area is so elegant the guest might feel comfortable to sit.

The hotel proclaims that it is 4 -star. However, some facilities are still not in the criteria
of the 4-star hotel category. For instance, its restaurant and bar are so small to service its
guest. It might be advantage for the guests if the hotel is able to expand the restaurant or
bar to accommodate its consumers.

Delta

Delta Toronto East Hotel is located at Kennedy Road and village green square, it is first
class hotel namely 4-star hotel and is a large cooperated hotel and a Canadian Hotel
Brand.

The motto of the hotel is to provide guest with a home away from home.(Chester)

There are 369 rooms ranging in different types such as a standard room, a premier room,
a deluxe suite, and a luxury suite. The price ranges for these rooms are always fluctuating
on a daily basis and as thus cannot be accurately identified. (Chester)

The hotel provides full room service and many facilities such as spa, swimming pool,
three restaurants (Sangano, Whitehouse, Terrace Grill), and a gym.

Delta has two target markets are business traveler and corporate people from Sunday to
Thursday and family on Friday and Saturday.

Delta offers the business travelers and corporate people conference halls, convention and
meeting rooms which can accommodate 700 guests at a time. The Convention room can
be divided into as much as seven sections.

Basic Wi-Fi connection is provided if guests want a faster Wi-Fi Internet they would
have to pay extra. For example, a standard package would cost a $1 a day .However, if
you want to upgrade to a faster Wi-Fi package you would have to pay even more.

To accommodate the family the hotel provides a salt water pool, sauna and a squash
court.

It is the official hotel for the Toronto Zoo, by working together to accommodate the
tourists who visit the zoo.

The hotel promotes itself through word of mouth, advertisements, and third party
websites such as Expedia, and Hot Wire.

The hotel might not be up to the 4- star standard as it self-proclaims because they were
not up to date within the washrooms facilities.

Other Report Details

We first went to Sheraton Hotel on Leslie and Highway 7. The hotel was busy where
religious group had just checked-in as well as some corporate clients were still checking in. We
waited patiently for the front desk to be less busy before asking for their assistance. When we
introduced ourselves as students from Seneca College and asked for a tour of the ground floor
where there was a Starbucks and Crave, which is a restaurant on the ground floor. The front
desk introduced us to Johnny, a former Seneca Graduate that had been working there for 3 years.
Johnny showed us around the ground floor and ended up talking in front of the restaurant. We
asked Johnny to take a picture with him, but he sadly declined. We instead choose to take a
picture in front of the Sheraton Spa sign to show that we had been to the Hotel. Our group
concurred that we would be interested to work at the Sheraton, if an opportunity was ever

offered; however, we also agreed that if another opportunity came up, we would consider it as
well. The reason we came up to this conclusion is because Johnny never Built bridges with us,
upcoming people in the workforce. He never talked about a co-op opportunity, or he might not
be in the position to offer it or give us a business card or anything that would let us come back
and reflect on our experience at Sheraton.
We immediately went to Delta Toronto East Hotel afterwards. When we arrived, we had
to wait 30 minutes for our tour guide to be available. Our tour guide was Chester Ferdinands,
Front Office Manager of the hotel. We again introduced ourselves to Chester as students of
Seneca College, however we arrived at a time where it was not optimal for the hotel. Chester
continued with the tour regardless, but had to go back to the front desk multiple times. Chester
began our tour with showing us a hall that could hold up to a maximum of 700 guests, but could
be separated to seven sections to accommodate multiple business meetings at the same time. It
was located in front of here in the hallway where we conducted most of our tour. He presented us
with Deltas slogan of that they are A Home away from home. (Website). To finish off our
tour, Chester was also intrigued about us being students at Seneca College and offered us an
opportunity to do co-op at that hotel and said many students were doing the same from other
colleges. When we ended the tour, all of us were given business cards to keep in contact with
him in case of any questions. We all agreed that if there was an opportunity presented within the
Delta Toronto East Hotel, we would take the time to research what positions that we would fit in.
We felt that we could ask Chester for help if anything and felt better about this hotel than others.
The hotel built a connection to all the people within our group and with that helps to promote
their hotel with word of mouth.

In conclusion, both hotels were fantastic and unique. They had various features and perks
that one had over the other. Both had positives and negatives but in the end, our group enjoyed
the assignment altogether. If we were to choose our favorites between our visit to Sheraton hotel
and resorts and Delta Toronto East hotel, we preferred our visit to the Delta more than the
Sheraton, however both had provided great insight into the hospitality industry and we agreed
that if an opportunity arises to work at such a vibrant and fast paced industry, we wouldnt
overlook the opportunity.
