Standard 3 - Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning

3.1 Establish challenging learning goals. Set learning goals that provide achievable
challenges for students of varying abilities and characteristics.

Example 1: Projects use open-ended questions. They have a focus but no limit to
what they can research or do with them.

3.2 Plan, structure and sequence learning programs. Plan lesson sequences using
knowledge of student learning, content and effective teaching strategies.

Example 1: History big question - plan in sequence or backward from intended


outcome.

Example 2: Unit plans, lesson plans, followed by reflective notes for improved
lessons the next time.

3.3 Use teaching strategies. Include a range of teaching strategies.

Example 1: Using the Smart board, completing worksheets, working in groups, and
lots of hands-on experience.

Example 2: Using online sources such as Study ladder.

Example 3: Playing games to consolidate knowledge. For example, playing the game
Follow me allows student knowledge to be tested and consolidated in a fun and
relaxed manner.

3.4 Select and use resources. Demonstrate knowledge of a range of resources,
including ICT, that engage students in their learning.
Example 1: Applying ICT for more than just research. Using it for presentations, apps
to aid learning - Study ladder maths games, Times tables songs on You Tube, and
iPad apps such as iMotion featured below:

Example 2: Using tangible items such as the MAB blocks when teaching fractions
and decimals, pictured below:

3.5 Use effective classroom communication. Demonstrate a range of verbal and
non-verbal communication strategies to support student engagement.

Example 1: Drama, Art and Dance will all feature in our Christmas Play.

Example 2: Our Classroom Team Challenge has motivated the students to complete
their work in a timely manner for themselves and their team to earn small rewards.

3.6 Evaluate and improve teaching programs. Demonstrate broad knowledge of
strategies that can be used to evaluate teaching programs to improve student
learning.

around the classroom while the students are working is another way of assessing

3.7 Engage parents/ carers in the educative process. Describe a broad range of
strategies for involving parents/carers in the educative process.
Example 1: Parent involvement on excursions and parent help for reading groups.



Example 2: Regular class letters that each student takes home to their parents
informing them of whats been happening in the class.

Example 3: An Open classroom policy for parents so they feel welcome anytime.
Example 4: Encourage Community tutors, such as Kat Cole who comes and reads
with Jarrod on a weekly basis.
