Standard 6 - Engage in professional learning

6.1 Identify and plan professional learning needs. Demonstrate an understanding of
the role of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers in identifying
professional learning needs.

Example 1: Apply for Professional Development that is suitable and will apply to
your current teaching needs. Professional Development should be communicated
with other staff and shared for everyones benefit.

The progress of the Deeper Pedagogies program is updated in staff meetings.

Specialists invited to teach at various weekly meetings. For example Rob
Carter.

Example 2: Principal / Teacher meetings to develop a Personal Learning Plan that
will help strengthen an area identified as a weakness. This should happen yearly
with a follow-up session to assess the progress.

6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice. Understand the relevant
and appropriate sources of professional learning for teachers.
Example 1: Professional Development throughout the year Ranging from
Computer quickies at weekly staff meetings to full-days of Professional Learning
with other educators.

6.3 Engage with colleagues and improve practice. Seek and apply constructive feedback
from supervisors and teachers to improve teaching practices.

senior staff members.

6.4 Apply professional learning and improve student learning. Demonstrate an
understanding of the rationale for continued professional learning and the
implications for improved student learning.

Example 1: Keeping up to date with the students, especially in the area of ICT.

Finding a balance between curriculum content and preparing each student


for their future.
Proving hands-on experiences that are relevant to student lives.
