Description of Experience
This week was the first time I had the
opportunity of treating a patient within the
general public. I had a patient who didnt
really fill out their Health History form well
enough to realize what she wanted. After
going through the Health History I managed
to find out my patient suffers with carpal
tunnel syndrome. She developed it by
working in a factory always lifting boxes
daily. Her initial treatment was to focus on
her forearms and arms. After doing all my
assessments and treating her forearms and
arms after I thought the treatment went
well as my patient booked another
appointment. Afterwards creating the SOAP
note was difficult at first but I eventually got
the hang out of it. Next week I will treat and
assess her back as we didnt have time to
treat her back this week. I will also perform
an SOT of the wrist for her carpal tunnel
syndrome.

This week I was granted the opportunity of

having two patients. My first patient was the
patient who I first treated last week. It was
exciting to know that she had rebooked
another appointment with me again.
Following up with her, she said the pain had
subsided from her wrist since last
treatment. Therefore I had reassessed her
wrist and reassessed her posture and
completed the Phalens SOT test. After I had
asked her some follow up questions about
her wrist then proceeded with to assess her
back as today she wanted a wellness
treatment. My second patient had come to
the clinic before last year and normally
comes in for wellness treatments. Starting
with the health history I found out her has a
rare eye condition, learning/physical
disability. I proceeded with his blood
pressure and postural assessment then
treated his lower back. This treatment was a
good experience for me to learn about what
this patient was all about and how he goes
on throughout his days with his disability.
Next week I will be treating his shoulders
finding out while palpating that they were
very tight due to Taekwondo.
This week I was able to treat my returning
patient. I followed up with her about her
wrist and she had a complaint about the
pain recurring. With that being said I
reassessed her wrist, and she had pain with
flexion. I did the wellness treatment she
asked for and then massaged her forearms.
At the end of the treatment I sent her with
home care exercises for her wrist

2.2.c.2 select techniques

that are appropriate to the
patients conditions and
desired outcomes
2.2.c.3 Formulate a
treatment that address the
patients conditions and
desired outcomes

Three performance indicators I have not achieved are

Perform palpatory assessment

Perform range of motion assessment
Perform special appropriate special tests

My plan for achieving these three indicators is

I will need to review my notes weekly and go over these assessments with a partner in order to
achieve these performance indicators.
I am NOT SATISIFIED with my progress in this Internship so far
Right now I have lots of room for improvement. I still tend to get nervous a bit during the
communication process to the patient. I need to work more slowly rather than being worried about
getting them on the table with the allotted time spot. I also need to work more on my assessments.
I am SATISFIED with my progress in this Internship so far
Even if I am not satisfied with a few things about the Internship there are some ups to this as
well. This was our first encounter with a real patient rather than each other and even with the nerves, I
was proud to know that my patient has been returning with me for 3 weeks now. I take what feedback I
am given by my instructor and classmates into perspective as they are only trying to help me become
better at what I am doing.
