Procedure
1) The sport that we have chosen is soccer. We will be analyzing a soccer kick. A soccer kick
involves two stages: the approach stage (kicking a soccer ball) and the follow through stage
(after kicking the soccer ball).
2) With the approach stage, the movements that occur are concentrically contracting meaning the
muscles are shortening are preparing for the kick.. The movements with the follow through
stage are all eccentric contractions considering it is after the kick which means the muscles are
lengthening.

Movement Required

Approach Stage

Trunk
Hip

Stabilization of pelvis
Right hip internal rotation
Right Hip Flexion
Left Hip extension

Knee
Ankle
Shoulder

Right/left knee extension

Right ankle plantar flexion
Left shoulder horizontal
adduction

Hip

Knee

Follow Through Stage

Right hip external rotation

Hip extension
Hip abduction
Right knee flexion

3) A) The ROM that is required is the shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle. The trunk is also involved as it
is primarily involved with stabilization.

B & C) There are many muscles that need to be flexible to allow this movement to be possible.
The following muscles that need to be flexible are listed below. The kicking portion involved in
soccer involves a lot of power, the bigger and stronger the muscle group is the more power
exerted. The following muscles that need to be strong in order to kick a ball are listed below.

C) It takes merely seconds for a players shoe to come in contact with a ball when kicking.
