Description
Accounting A and Accounting B together fulfill a one year math requirement for graduation. In this
course you will learn and practice financial accounting a business skill, helpful in your career
and/or college. You will learn the terms, process, and concepts of Accounting. We will hear from guest
speakers to see the applications of accounting and other business practices.
Expectations and Goals
Come to class with a desire to succeed. Please bring any observances you make about the businesses
around you and accounting to share with the class. We will be learning and applying accounting
principles in a service business that is organized as a sole proprietorship.
Students may help with the Student Store during the first few weeks of the trimester between
classes in the morning. This will require planning, responsibility, time management, customer service,
honesty, courtesy and cash handling. You may help set the prices and communicate the message to
other students. The binders, dividers, paper and highlighters we will be selling are primarily for
seniors to use in their government class.
I follow the motto- Respectful, Responsible, and Ready. That is what I expect from you. The climate
in our classroom needs to be one where students feel comfortable, safe and able to focus. You should
be on time and on task. I will give you 50 points at the beginning of the trimester. Each day you are
tardy you will forfeit 5 points. If your actions are congruent with these goals, you and your fellow
students will have the best chance at being successful! You should display and show development in
these soft skills that employers and industries demand. These include:

Gratitude
Integrity
Professional Behavior

Respect
Reliability

Initiative
Positive Attitude

My goal is to help you successfully learn accounting. At the end of class we will learn and practice 10
key by touch for 10 minutes. This will become muscle memory.

Required Materials
Come to class with a pencil, calculator and paper. You may use a classroom calculator, but may not
have your phone out during class, even to use as a calculator. Our text is Century 21 Accounting. I
will give you an outline at the beginning of each chapter for you to take notes on. You can turn this
completed outline in before the chapter test for 5 extra credit points. Use these outlines to study for
the chapter tests. Be mentally present and attentive so you can be successful on the tests. I will quiz
spontaneously and often, so being in class and participating is the best way to do well. There is a
chapter test every week almost, so complete the daily assignments to be successful and not fall behind.
Use your school Gmail account to turn in any electronic assignments. The Madison School District
Technology Department has assigned every student a Gmail account that can only be used with
students/employees of the school district.
Grading
Roughly 45 % of your grade will come from daily assignments. Each day certain pages of the Working
Papers will be checked and points will be totaled for the chapter. After that day completed pages will
be worth half credit. The class will move quickly, so submit any make up work within the next two
school days. You can earn 5 extra credit points per chapter by taking notes from the lecture or text
and turning them in before that chapter test. Sometimes I will let you use these notes for your tests
and quizzes. Tests and quizzes make up the other 55 % of your grade. A pretest and Common End of
Course Assessment will be given to each student. Students who do not meet the school attendance
policy qualify to take the attendance final at the end of the trimester. The State of Idaho also requires
an additional course assessment for Accounting at the end of your second trimester. I want you to
earn a good grade while you enjoy learning how to analyze, journalize, and post transactions. You will
also perform trial balances, make adjustments and complete financial statements. I will be available
during lunch almost every day for you to ask questions, turn in assignments, or review tests.
Best Practices
You as a parent can help your child by asking what was discussed in Accounting that day, coming to
parent teacher conference, and asking to see the Working Papers. This reinforces and helps them
remember the concepts. Putting into words what they learned will help them a lot. Also, if you have a
guest speaker recommendation, please email or text me about it. Thank you! Please sign here to
verify that you have read this and are prepared to learn Accounting!

Signatures Please keep the above portion, so you have my name and phone number. Return
with the signatures below (5 points).
