Procedure:

The first grade students will use Mega Bloks for adding and
subtracting within 20, to solve world problems by the end of
40 minutes each day.
MAFS.1.OA.1.1
Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word
problems involving situations of adding to, taking from,
putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with
unknowns in all positions.
Students will have a worksheet including addition and
subtraction word problems using up to 20 Mega Bloks, to
help them fill out the worksheet in groups of 3. Pencils will
be already be provided on the tables.
Teacher will use Prezi to show two examples to the students
using an addition and subtraction world problem. Mega
Bloks will be demonstrated.
Mega Bloks will be passed out to each student.
Teacher will present the first addition or subtraction
example on Prezi.
Class will then help solve the problem by raising their
hands.
Candy will be provided to the correct answers given.
Continue with other three examples as a class.
After finished examples on Prezi, teacher will pass out
worksheet to class.
Students will then get into groups of 3, to work on the
worksheet.
Teacher will put online stopwatch software on board
for 10 minutes, so students will know how much time
they have left.
After 10 minutes, Prezi will be opened back up with
problems from the worksheet.
Choose students to come up to the board to solve the
problem.
Candy will be given for correct answers.

Word Problems from Prezi done as a class. Teacher presents

problems, and as a class the students will solve them.
Worksheet done in pairs on addition and subtraction
problems. After time is up, worksheet answers will be went
over as a class.
Esol Students: Offer alternative language world problems
Gifted Students: Give another worksheet
Disabled Adhd Students: give them an iPad with an app, to
help them better to see the numbers. (iTunes App: Addition
and Subtraction for Kids
