Captain Ashford Rum Celebrates its 300-Year Anniversary
With a Limited-Edition Bottle of Rum
CASTRIES, St. Lucia- September 24, 2014-Captain Ashford Rum launches a limited
edition 300th anniversary bottle of rum. The $300 bottle, Tercentennial Select, will
be available on November 1 at select wine and spirits shops in the United States,
such as Sherry-Lehman in Manhattan. Captain Jack Ashford established Captain
Ashford Rum on November 1, 1714. The specialty rum is only available in 750
milliliter size, and only 3,000 bottles of this rare blend will be sold in the United
States.
This limited-edition rum is a special combination of Captain Ashfords existing rums
with the vintages dating back to 1940. Master distiller Derek Jalousie spent 10 years
creating this special blend for the anniversary. Jalousie said, This is a rum that can
be enjoyed on its own, similar to premium and rare cognacs or liqueurs.

this anniversary bottle and where it is available. In edition, Captain Ashford Rum
celebrates its anniversary by launching a new recipe book on cooking with rum. The
company also sponsored 120 sailing regattas worldwide during the 2014-2015
season. Co-president Nigel Ashford said, We are targeting very specific groups
with the anniversary rum, families seeking holiday gifts for their fathers, sailors who
are avid buyers of Captain Ashford Rum, and collectors of rare wines and spirits.
Captain Jack Ashford founded the largest sugar cane plantation in the Caribbean.
Originally from England, Captain Ashford was a pirate in the West Indies for nearly
20 years. His frigate, Ravens Revenge, crashed off the shore of St. Lucia, where he
settled and set up the distillery. He was a popular leader among the planter elite and
a great philanthropist. He funded a hospital and a public school on the island. He
also spoke out against the institution of slavery.
