Mini-Challenge # 8 (last post:24, last welcome: # 23)
The challenge below is meant to be a practice on working with a Net
Team Partner. Registered users need to send mail to their list with a message about themselves and their teams. Even though A LOT of US teams are not quite ready, I suggest you try finding NTP first and then zero in on the logistics of it all. As fate would have it, I don't have a computer in my room this year. I transferred to a new campus, and I've never seen a room as clean as the one I was assigned! For my own students to participate, what I am planning on doing, is relying on other faculty members to let my teams type in their responses in text file (ASCII) format (after I am sure they have discussed the challenges and are keeping a written record of it) and save the files in diskettes. I will then take them home or to the library and e-mail the files to their NTP's. The whole math department is wanting to get involved and the computer technology guy is really nice, so Wiggs Middle School will be soon posting for 7-9 NTPs. The Challenge ============= Mary and Charley developed a light weight car that can go 30 miles per hour for 10 miles before it needs to be recharged. To recharge it, Mary and Tom pedal backwards for one mile at 3 miles per hour, making the car move in reverse. They tested the car on Labor Day by leaving Numbersville at 7 a.m. and heading towards Mathfest (use map) 20 miles 9 miles o--------------------o---------0---------/ /---------o Numbersville Eventown Integer City Mathfest Working with a NTP, create five questions based on the information given. You may add up to three more details to enhance the questions, and you must include explanations/answers at the end. Try to ask questions that other students your age can answer. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
