The tell-all receipt.

I recently found this receipt. I tried remembering a
few things that I had bought (I only go shopping on my
birthday once a year) and was surprised at the amount
of information I could get from it. Work with your
team and your NTP to answer these questions:
1) How many items did I buy?
2) How much did I pay for the most expensive item?
3) How much was the least expensive item?
4) Did I get any money for the bottle I took?
5) What's the sales tax rate in El Paso?
6) What day of the week was it? What Julian date was it?
7) Why do some items have an asterisk?
8) How did I pay?
9) If I live 8 minutes away from the grocery store, did
I make it back on time for the 8:00 news?

(Challenge based on Don Rubin's "Brainstorms")

The mathematical concept of ISOMORPHISM (mathematical equivalency) is a
very important concept. Basically it means that you can often solve a
problem by transforming it to an isomorphic one that already has been
solved, or you know how to work.

Consider now this game: By taking turns two players

can use these listed words and cross them out, each one
trying to get a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line
with three words that have the same letter in common.
1) What common isometric problem can be used here?
2) Can you create another set of nine words that can
be used for this game?

(Challenge based on Martin Gardner's "aha!")
