Lesson Objectives (TEKS):


1.b.3 Reading/Beginning Reading Skills/Phonics. Students use the relationships between letters
and sounds, spelling patterns, and morphological analysis to decode written English. Students
will continue to apply earlier standards with greater depth in increasingly more complex texts.
Students are expected to:
(A) decode words in context and in isolation by applying common letter-sound correspondence
including:
v. vowel digraphs including oo as in foot, oo as in moon, ea as in eat, ea as in bread, ee,
ow as in how, ow as in snow, ou as in out, ay, ai, aw, au, ew, oa, ie as in chief, ie as in
pie, and igh
(F) use knowledge of the meaning of base words to identify and read common compound words
(e.g. football, popcorn, daydream)
1.b.20 Oral and Written Conventions/Conventions. Students understand the function of and use
the conventions of academic language when speaking and writing. Students are expected to:
(A) understand and use the following parts of speech in the context of reading, writing, and
speaking:
(vi) pronouns (e.g. I, me); and
Procedures:
A. Read Aloud Book: Bunny Money
B. Writing Activity: Students will practice writing the names of coins on a worksheet and
color them.
C. Guided Reading:
a. Book Introduction: This is a book about a boy named Tom and he is really
excited about his birthday. He asks his parents everyday if it is his birthday, until
it finally is his birthday.
b. Comprehension Check: What is the name of the main character? What question
does he keep asking his parents? How many days of the week are there?

c. Instruction: I will explain to the students what a proper noun is and how days of
the week are pronouns. Also, these pronouns are capitalized. They are to write the
days of the week in their journal while capitalizing the first letter.
d. Word Work: Use magnetic letters to show ed words.
e. Lesson Closure: Review pronouns and ask students if they can think of some
other pronouns, now that they know what they are. Also, ask the students if they
can give me examples of ed words. They may point to words in the book.
