Professional Development

It is important for me to realize that my teaching can always be improved and there will
frequently be new and innovative teaching practices that I can apply to my lessons to do so. In
order for me to stay current and be aware of these practices, I have attended and will continue
attending workshops, using online resources, and participating in technology training sessions.
For example, during my student teaching experience, I received training on not only how to use
the TI N-Spire calculator, but also on how to set up the networking system for the school. I have
attended different workshops offered through UTD that pertained to ELPS, Interactive Journals,
and Collaborative Learning strategies which have helped me gain a deeper understanding of
how I can manipulate my lessons with these in mind. Furthermore, I am a member of NCTM
(National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) and periodically receive journals and math
resources. Through my membership, I am also informed of math conferences throughout the
year and any changes in curriculum and standards which allow me to stay up-to-date in my
subject area.
