Name Hornets because during the revolutionary war,

British General Cornwallis made a statement about the
resistance that he met in North Carolina saying "There's
a rebel behind every bush, it's a veritable nest of
hornets.

Played from 1989-2002 then team owner moved to New

Orleans in 2003

2004 NBA granted Charlotte a new team, Charlotte

Bobcats
2013 Charlotte announced the name change back to
Hornets

Before the Hornets Left they had had been to the in each of these years: 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000,
2001, 2002,
In the Bobcats ten year history they only made it to the playoffs two time: 2010, 2014

REASON WHY THEY

George Shinn who was owner at the time wanted money from the city to build
new arena

He was denied the funding and moved team to New Orleans

Wouldnt get funding unless scandalous Owner George Shinn sold the team
Owner George Shinn was on trial for sexual abuse, and several players
including Glenn Rice who was one of their star players at the time
Although Shinn was found not guilty he was not the most liked person in
Charlotte.

Like most people I never knew this was the exact reason to why the Hornets
left Charlotte.

Before the Hornets left they led the NBA in attendance for seven consecutive seasons in
Charlotte

Bobcats who have never led the NBA in that category struggled every year in attendance
Since Charlotte got the Bobcats they have been in bottom ten in attendance every year
2008 ranked in Top Ten Worst Fanbases

 When Charlotte announced that the name Hornets was

returning the response from community and fans was
overwhelming.
In this past off season there were more than 2000 new season
ticket holders and ninety percent of fans renew tickets.
It put Charlotte in the top ten in the league for both categories.
The Hornets are number one in the NBA for new season ticket
sales.
