Grouping- Whole group, partners
Materials- Word Scrambler flipchart, 1 word scrambler sentence for partners, Word Detective hats (Have the word detective hats premade for the students. Before the lesson, size the students hats so that they fit). Body of the Lesson1. Begin the lesson with reviewing with students what kind of things we look for when writing sentences. (Capitol, end mark, does it make sense). 2. Tell students that today we will be talking about sentence structure and becoming word detectives. Someone has scrambled up a bunch of sentences and its our job to figure out what the sentences say. We need to unscramble the sentences. We can use what we know about sentence structure to help us. 3. Open up the flipchart and proceed through Tuesday's portion. 4. Once you have unscrambled the sentences as a class, use the selector tool to choose partners. Each pair of students will get a snack baggie with a bunch of jumbled of words. Students must be a word detective and unscramble the words. They should be using their knowledge of sentence structure to unscramble.
