Mini Lesson Planning Tool for Integrating Technology

Title of Lesson: Puppet Fun!
Curriculum/Content Area: Language Arts
Grade Level: 3rd grade

Purpose/Objective: Students will create a puppet show based on a short story read in class to
illustrate and retell the story.
Curriculum Standards:
Technology: 1.) Use input and output devices of technology systems.
2.) Use various technology applications, including word processing and
multimedia software.
Language Arts:3.) Recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures;
determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key
details in the text. [RL.3.2]
Activities: The students will be given a short story to read. Students will be divided into groups
based on the short story they are given. Each group will receive an iPad and will create a Puppet
Show by using the application, Sock Puppets.
Questions:
1. Do I knowhow to use the technology tools that will be used by my students?
Yes, I do know how to use iPads and the applications used for this mini lesson.
2. What technology skills do my students already have that are needed for this lesson?
My students will need to know how to use an iPad. These are basic skills that the students
will/should already know. The students will need to be able to open different apps, and should
be able to use the apps.
3. What technology skills will they need to learn to complete this lesson successfully?
My students will need to use the Sock Puppet App. The students will need to be able to choose
the puppet they want and create a scene or scenario using the puppets.
4. What is the appropriate setting for this lesson? Is this setting available for my students to use?
The classroom, a resource room, or a technology room. This lesson needs to be in a classroom
with access to iPads.
5. What tools and resources will I use?
I will use the iPad and the application, Sock Puppets
6. How much time will I allow for this lesson?
20 minutes-30 minutes

7. Who can help me with the planning and/or implementation of this lesson?
I dont need help with the planning and implementation. If I did need help, the technology
teacher could help me.
8. How will I assess the students learning?
I will use a checklist to be sure students are using the app properly and using all of the tools
that come with the application.
