Standard I: Procedures and Routines

1. Entering the Room: Students will receive their bell work from me, check out a
calculator, and proceed to their assigned seat to begin working on bell work. When
students are finished with bell work they should pull out their homework letting me
know they are finished. Students may speak quietly when finished with work.
2. Where to put backpacks/cell phones: Backpacks need to be placed under their
desk or may be place at the back of the room. Please turn cell phone sound off during
class. If you have your phone out it must be on the top corner of your desk. You may use
your phone to look up information (on math!), as a calculator, or to take pictures of notes.
If there is free time to do homework you may listen to music while you work. If cell
phones become a problem they will no longer be allowed.
3. Taking Attendance: Attendance will be taken right when the bell rings. If
students are not in their assigned seat, they are late.
4. Tardy Procedure: If a student is late to class they will need to sign the tardy sheet that
will be located in their class section in the room. After signing in they will pick up the
bell work and notes for class and go to their seat quietly.
5. Turning in Homework: Homework will be due at the beginning of each class. At the
beginning of class I encourage students to ask questions for me to go over with the entire
class. While we review the questions students may write correct answers in pen so that I
can see what they have fixed (they will still receive full credit).
6. Late work: Late work will receive partial credit and will not be accepted after the Unit
test date. Late work must be put in the late box located in their class section. If a student
has more than 3 assignments not turned in they will be required to come to my classroom
during lunch or before school to complete the assignments.
7. Projects: At the end of the year there will be a group project. You will research a
person in history who has influenced mathematics and present to the class what each
group found. This project will be graded as a homework assignment.
8. Tests and quizzes: Students will take a quiz after each section of a unit. Quizzes
cannot be retaken. If a student would like to go over the quiz and show that they know
what they missed they can receive half a point back for each problem they correct.
After each Unit Students will take a unit test. Tests can be retaken.
*Tests can be retaken within two weeks of the first test: You must come to class before
school or during lunch to correct the answers missed on the first test, have a review, an
then they may take the retake. The retake will be the final grade, even if it is lower than
the first score.

9. Extra Credit: Extra credit will be available for students who have turned in all of their
assignments. (The most creative way to ask a date to the dance, must be math related).
10. Returning Graded Assignments: I will hand back corrected assignments every
Monday. If a student is absent Monday they may pick up their graded assignments out of
their folder located in their class section. No name assignments will be place on the
white board at the back of the room.
11. Absences: If the student misses class they will be required to make up participation
points and finish homework that was assigned.
12. Participation: Each day you will receive 5pts for participation. If you are late you
will loose 2 of the points. Students must participate in class discussions and activities to
receive full credit each day. If you are absent, you can receive these points by watching a
youtube video on the section we covered and writing notes about it (as well as doing the
notes and homework that were missed).
13. HELP: I am available for help during lunch (11:06-11:56) and before and after
school (7:10-8:15) or (2:45-3:00).
14. Restroom/Hall Pass Procedures: Each quarter students will be given three
hall passes. At the end of the quarter I will collect unused passes for extra credit.
15. Throwing Away Trash and Sharpening Pencils: Students may sharpen
pencils and throw away trash when they feel it is appropriate and wont interrupt
the class.
16. Students Completing In-Class Assignments Early: In the back of the room I
will have math games that students can play.
17. Lost and Found: Items left in the classroom will be place in a tote behind my
desk.
18. Emergency Drills: Fire/Earthquake/Lockdown: School procedures will be
place at the front of the classroom by the door and in the back of the room on the
white board. On the first day of school we will go over the school procedures and
practice.

Standard II: Arranging Physical Space in Your Classroom

For group activities and group learning I would put my desks in clusters with
students facing towards the front of the room so that if I need their attention it is
easy for them to see the front of the room for discussion. Students are also less likely
to be distracted by other students in front of them if they were to be facing each
other.
Front of Classroom

OR:
Front of Classroom

I would use desks in rows for test days and for days that the lesson will be given
through lecture.
Front of Classroom

I would use double rows for buddy work and lecture days when I want them to talk
and communicate. I also might try a half circle for these days.

Standard III: Rules, Consequences, and Recognition

It is important for students to have an opportunity to give input on rules, consequences,
and recognition in my classroom. I want my students to feel that they have a voice in my
class and that it is their classroom as well. I have a list of rules, consequences, and
recognition strategies that I find appropriate and have listed below. On the first day of
school I will discuss them with my students and we will decide if we should make any
changes.
Rules:
1. Be on time and prepared for class.
2. Be respectful to all around you including yourself.
3. Be Positive!
4. Do your best.
5. Help others.
6. Always try again.
7. Push Yourself.
8. Leave your comfort zone once and a while.
9. Be open to new experiences.
10. Have fun!
Plan for correcting early stage misbehaviors:
a. Proximity: I will walk by students who are off task to help remind them I am
watching.
b. Signal: If a student is beginning to break a rule I will give them a hand signal
or just gain eye contact with them to let them know they need to change what
they are doing.
c. Verbal: I will ask them to stop or use humor to get them back on task.
d. More verbal: I will ask the student to step into the hallway with me to talk.
Consequences:
e. If the student does not listen to my warning they will
1. Be placed in a different seat.
2. If they continue they will loose hall passes.
3. If they continue on they will receive lunch detention. (During lunch they
must come to my classroom and work on homework and notes quietly).
If I am forced to use (c) I will send an email to the parents letting them know what
has been going on in class and ask if there is a way that would best to resolve the
problem.

Recognition:
1. If a student receives a 98% or above on a test they may put their name on the
hall of fame board.
2. Each week I will write at least 4 notes to different students to let them know I
appreciate their hard work and their example they set in the class. I will also
send an email or call the parents to let them know I enjoy having their child in
my class.
3. Let student choose between a extra hall pass, one free tardy pass, free
homework pass, early out pass (student can leave one minute before the bell
rings), or candy.
4. The Student may choose their seat for the next class period.
5. Have a student of the week board. Students that receive student of the week
can put their name, picture, drawing, or quote on the board.

Standard IV: Attention Getters

1. Using a visual: Raise hand into air and ask students to quiet down. If they dont quiet
down, let them know they are wasting their own valuable time.
2. Using Sound: Use something that makes a sound such as a bell, song, or rain stick to
remind the class they need to quiet down.
3. Quiet Spray: When the class wont quiet down pull out the quiet spray/squirt bottle
filled with water (make sure it is on the mist setting) and spray into the air.
