Activities and Procedures:
Anticipatory Set:
Show Snowman Painting at the beginning of the class.
Students will discuss their feelings about the painting together. Ask questions - what do you see? what do you think its called? what
does it make you think of?
Students will be asked a series of questions to gather their thoughts and prepare them for the winter lesson ahead.

Make all materials available for students in the front of the class.
Instruct students to choose materials to create their own winter scene.
Students will create their own winter scene by using materials provided and reflecting on the painting.
Play one snow song to have students clean up their mess and transition back to their seats.
Read There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow. Discuss - what was needed to build the snowman? Can we build a
snowman without snow? How is this possible?
Transition to movement activity.
Divide students into two teams.
First student will start as the snowman.
The snowman be given the word snowman to spell before running to the duffle bag at the other end of the classroom.
The snowman will put on the shirt and the boxers and return to his team.
Teammates will spell the words glove, scarf, hat, mittens, glasses, and socks.
When the students spell each item, they will run to the other end and find the item in the bag.
Once students find the items, they will run back and place the item on the snowman.
When all items are correctly placed on each teams snowman, the teammates will sit down.
The first team to sit down is the winner.

Closure:
Students will sing and perform music to The Funny Snowman Song. Students will also discuss what their favorite part of the lesson

was.
Evaluation:
Students will be evaluated on their descriptions of the snowman picture versus their original picture, correct use of the instruments
during the song, and working together as a team during the relay race.
Students showed attention and participation 90% of the time.
Assignments:
No further assignments will be given.
