Retaught/reviewed for a week and retested.
7/9 Passed the second time.

Unit 11- Can one person make a difference in their


community?
Standards addressed:
2-H2.05 Identify a problem in a communitys past and describe how it was
resolved.
2-H2.0.3 Use an example to describe the role of the individual in creating
history.

Objectives:
Students will be able to identify and describe how a citizen in the community
can make a positive impact.

Students will be able to describe a problem in a community and a possible


solution.

Students were able to come up with community problems.
Answers not consistent regarding whether one person can make a difference.

Lesson 1
Discussion about different problems within the school/classroom with a
partner.
Consequences of the problem on the school/classroom.
Possible solutions to the problems.

Lesson 2
Discuss problems that different communities have had and how they were
solved.
Power point and reading in the book.
1. Looked at the problem.
2. Tried to come up with a solution ourselves.
3. Looked at what actually happened.
4. Compared our solution to the actual solution.

Ticket to recess: I asked them to explain on a piece of paper how one person
can make a difference in their community!

Lesson 3
Review the problems and people from the day before. (Lesson 2)
Discuss problems that different communities have had and how they were
solved.
Power point and reading in the book.

Lesson 4
Reviewed the problems and the people who helped solve them. (Last two
lessons)
Read through a section in the social studies book. Real life student who
made a difference in her community.
Read aloud. Students volunteered to read aloud and we had a discussion about
what we read.
During reading we would stop and turn and talk with neighbor about what we were
reading, then we talked about it all together.

Test and questions.

Lowest score was a five.
All students except one improved.
