Strategy for Individualized Student Planning (PEP)

9th grade students: In the week before the start of students 9th grade year, there will be
an orientation for students and parents/guardians where they will become familiar with
the school. Not only will they take a tour, meet and greet with multiple administrators, but
they will also speak with members of the high schools National Honor Society as well as
senior class officers. They will discuss future career options and how important it is to
start early when it comes to thinking about the future. During the first two weeks of April
Freshmen will be called to the school counselors office, by their designated school
counselor, in alphabetical order. Meeting times will be designated for a maximum of 15
minutes per student. After PEP has been completed the students will be required to
have their parent/legal guardian sign the paperwork and return it to the school
counselors mailbox within seven days.

10th grade students will be required to take Roads to Success. A course that
encourages students to think about life after high school, practice interview skills, and
create a resume. During the last two weeks of March Sophomores will be called to the
school counselors office, by their designated school counselor, in alphabetical order.
Meeting times will be designated for a maximum of 15 minutes per student. After PEP
has been completed the students will be required to have their parent/legal guardian
sign the paperwork and return it to the school counselors mailbox within seven days.

11th grade students will have the opportunity to attend a college/career fair scheduled in
August. Students, as part of their English class, will be required to write a paper on their
plans after graduation. They will also attend a Junior Seminar, where all 11th graders
meet in the auditorium at the end of their junior year to discuss graduation requirements
and information they will need to know (e.g. three careers and 3 colleges they are
interested in) in order to complete their last PEP in their Senior year. During the first two
weeks of March Juniors will be called to the school counselors office, by their designated

school counselor, in alphabetical order. Meeting times will be designated for a maximum
of 15 minutes per student. After PEP has been completed the students will be required
to have their parent/legal guardian sign the paperwork and return it to the school
counselors mailbox within seven days.

12th grade students will have the opportunity to attend a college/career fair scheduled in
August. They will also attend a Senior Seminar, where all 12th graders meet in the
auditorium at the beginning of the school year for a discussion of graduation
requirements and information they will need to know (e.g. three careers and 3 colleges
they are interested in) in order to complete their last PEP. During the last two weeks of
February Seniors will be called to the school counselors office, by their designated
counselor, in alphabetical order. Meeting times will be designated for a maximum of 15
minutes per student. After PEP has been completed the students will be required to
have their parent/legal guardian sign the paperwork and return it to the school
counselors mailbox within seven days.

a. Students will identify tasks they must complete prior to graduation
2. Lesson Two: Stress Management
a. Review and discussion of stress and healthy management techniques
3. Lesson Three: Communication Skills
a. Students will learn to use good communication skills and work cooperatively
4. Lesson Four: Effects of Attitude
a. Students will learn the importance of positive attitudes for their personal life and
employability skills
