Daybook Entry 5

Proposal
My line of inquiry is Why should pharmacies try to pursue a male birth control
just like the ones women have? I chose this as my line of inquiry because Ive always
wondered why women were given certain security that men werent. Im sure a lot of
men would love to be able to have more control over their reproductive choices. I would
be one of the first guys in line for a pill, so it is safe to say I am bias on this topic. The
research I do on this topic would most definitely benefit men.
Male birth control is something the world has never seen and thats a problem
that pharmacies should aim to be solving. America is all about having equal rights but
lack of a male birth control while women have one is not fair. In order to address this
situation first, pharmacies would need to bring up a possible birth control to men and
see how they accept this new idea. Second, scientists would need to see how effective
this new birth control would be and if there were any side effects. Finally the new birth
control would need to be distributed to the public for use. Not everyone agrees that
male birth control is a good idea. Some say that a male birth control would only lead to
more unsafe sex. Others point out that a male birth control would only lead to infidelity
within relationships. These objections make sense, but these point of views should not
be the reason men are not being given a right to have more control over their
reproductive choices. All in all, if women are given the security to prevent unwanted
pregnancies, men should also be given that security. If the male birth control ends up
being a huge failure, then at least our doctors can say they tried.
To end my proposal I want to touch on gender roles. In America the roles of the
man in a family and a woman are not as clear as they were twenty years ago. Today

there are stay at home dads and moms that make majority of the familys income. This
line of inquiry affects all people. Men, women, and children could benefit from a male
birth control pill. If a man is unable given the right tools to prevent pregnancy, then less
children would be born unexpectedly. Families would have more planned pregnancies,
which means there would be sufficient funding for the new addition to the family.

Reflection
The fifth entry I have chosen to place in my portfolio is my proposal. This proposal was
my starting point for every paper in this class. Once this proposal was turned in, we could not
change our topic, so I knew I had to convince myself this was the topic for me. I tried to touch on
both the males point of view and the females point of view. We wrote our proposals before we
discussed what voices were, so I left out the doctors point of view in this. I was very satisfied
with my proposal so I reassured myself that I chose the correct line of inquiry. I did not know
what a proposal was until I wrote one in this class.
