Toddlers Observed:

Silas (2)
Emma (2)
Cooper (2)
Dakota (3)

Gross & Fine Motor Skills:

Scribbles vigorously:
o Today when I got there Silas and Emma were around the table coloring
on coloring pages with crayons.
Jumps in place:
o Didnt notice anyone jumping in place today. Emma is normally hyped up
and bouncing off the walls but Mrs. Kelly stated that she hadnt been
feeling well all day, so that might have something to do with the fact that
she is calmer and more laid back today.
Walks on tiptoes:
o Like I saw during my first observation Emma always walks on her tiptoes. Cooper does it some, however not as much as Emma.
Place one 2 block on another 2 block
o The children did block play today however they werent wooden blocks
they are large multi-colored Legos. Cooper was fixated on the blocks for
a while and he would start to build towers except they werent very tall.
He would just build a bunch of little small towers.
Scribbles with large crayon on a large piece of paper:
o It wasnt necessarily large pieces of paper they were normal 8 x 11
sheets but Silas and Emma were coloring when I arrived.
Turns 2-3 pages in a large book while sitting in adults lap:
o Nobody looked through any books today. At one point Dakota took over
a book for the teachers helper to read however as soon as the helper
started reading the book Dakotas attention span moved onto something
else.
Holds pencil and makes marks on sheet of paper

o The kids had been coloring except it wasnt with pencils. The center
doesnt allow toddlers to use pencils because they could accidently stab
another child or themselves.
Builds a 4 block tower with 2 cube blocks
o Large multi-colored Legos.

Social and Emotional Skills:

Displays self-conscious emotions of shame, embarrassment, guilt and/or pride:
o z
Can verbally name some feelings:
o Once again, Silas tells you all of his feelings. Today he came up to me after
getting in a quarrel with another child and told me he didnt like the other
kid and that he was mad. He said I needed to tell Ms. Kelly.
Displays empathy:
o Didnt see any of this.
Joins in play with familiar others:
o Silas and Cooper played together. Normally Emma and Dakota play
together however Emma played mostly on her own today. Im not sure if
this was because the other kids didnt want to be around her because she
was sick, or because she didnt want to be around them because she didnt
feel good.
Complies with simple directions:
o Silas is still really good about following directions.
Shows gender-stereotyped toy choices:
o Didnt notice any choices like that today.
Displays self-control:
o Dakota has self-control and tends to stay away from quarrels. Emma
seemed to be laid back today except Im assuming thats because she
doesnt feel well.
