Workshop Self-Assessment and Evaluation #2

1). What worked and why?

The sharing of narratives was effective in helping the audience understand the topic
gradually with every example we provided. The repetition of the dramatic pentad was
essential in the audience being able to identify the elements, which are prevalent within a
narrative. Also the narratives were relatable to a lot of people in class in some way even
if it wasnt the same way, it brought up a old memory for them that they could identify
with, which was one of the concepts of Narrative Paradigm in being able to relate to a
narrative. They were indirectly breaking down and critiquing the narrative by thinking
about how certain elements of it hung true to them and provided them with a theme to
identify with. Also tying the discussions at the end of each activity to the theory worked
well in helping the audience have a better grasp on the topic of Dramatism and Narrative
Paradigm.
2). What did not work as well as you would have liked?
The energy in the room and that we would flow through the workshop by keeping
it concise and making it a very memorable workshop for all who were involved did not
go as planned. Instead the topic of religion, which we tried to stay away from led into a
discussion about it due in large part to my poor choice of words regarding the topic of
fidelity and religion. Being that my partner and I are very energetic we had high
expectations not only for ourselves, but also on how to educate the class on the topic that
we choose to speak on. Unfortunately things did not go as planned and life knocked us

down, but we did finish better than we started and I have doubt that both my partner and I
will excel in our next workshops.
3). How did your work style differ from your team partners style/s?
a. Amber and Is work styles differed in one main area, which was that Amber is a
perfectionist and wants the responsibility of leading the group, which I had no problem
but I learned that Amber was not reluctant to let me help. This helped me learn that
although Ambers mindset is one of her greatest strengths, it can be her weakness
because it adds more pressure on her, which she doesnt need since I would gladly even
and balance it out among us since we are a team. Our ability to work together was not
hindered by this, but we definitely learned from it after our presentation.
How did you address and adapt to these differences? What did
you learn about working as a team from this experience?
b. I offered multiple times to help Amber with anything and I did so politely so
that I did not offend her or come off as if I did not trust her and that she could do what
needed to be done. I learned that sometimes its ok to help someone even if they say they
got it under control, because sometimes asking people isnt effective, but showing them
that you can and are willing to help out helps build that trust and allows Amber to trust
me with it and know that I got her back in this because we are a team and thats what we
do.
4). What have you seen others do during their workshops that you
found effective? Why?
I found that having good energy is crucial in the mood that your presentation will
be taken in with. During Frank and Trips workshop we were constantly laughing and
upbeat engaged with what they were saying. This was effective because even when it
wasnt funny and we got into the activities the mood was set so we were into doing
whatever was asked of us and having fun with relating it to the topic being presented on.
It is a domino effect in how more effective everything else is taken in by the class and

ultimately helps you accomplish the goal of effectively teaching the class about our
theory. This was a learning curve that I can without a doubt take away from this second
workshop and apply to the last workshop.
5). What changes do you want to make in your workshop design and
delivery style?
The workshop design varies with each theory in my opinion because you get
certain ideas and not all work with every theory or at least they will not be as effective in
your head. And as far as delivery style is concerned is should always be clear and concise
in what concepts you are trying to get across and the terms associate with those concepts
for an easier translation for the listener. Also with regards to delivery being cognoscente
of the vocabulary you use so that it doesnt cause a conflict or unwanted discussion that
would stray away from the topic your partner and you are trying to convey.
6). What is your action plan for making these changes? What do you
see as being your greatest challenges? How will you assess if you
have been successful?
a. Asking my classmates specifically on a certain thing I am trying to improve
on from my workshop and what they thought, so that they can have more time
to think about just one aspect even though they did evaluations during the
workshop.
b. The greatest challenge will be putting it all together, making sure to not leave
any aspects that I am looking to correct from the previous workshop in the
next one.
c. Looking at my classmates workshops and which I thought to be successful
and ask them, also relate to other sources and views on the theory I presented
and see if I hit along all the lines and didnt go off topic and stayed true to the
theory.

7) What 2 items are you going to focus on for the next workshop?

a. The use of vernacular on certain aspects of theories or elements that could be

really vague, so that it isnt confusing and doesnt ignite unwanted discussions.
b. Making sure everything is ready and all materials for activities are prepared, so
that our only worry is to close the door, get everyones attention and begin on schedule.
8). What are you learning about how you learn?
That my mood plays a large role in how effective I am on a certain day when in
class. Also I learned that teachers have a hard job in trying to keep the mood alive and
energetic especially when students arent interactive or even maybe if the teacher isnt
feeling well and having a bad day. So with that learning isnt just a one-week or a oneday thing it is a life-long ongoing process, but with regards to school and classes your
time is limited so the effort and right attitude has to be there so both your professor and I
can get the best out of each other.
9). What grade do you believe you earned on your workshop as it was
designed and delivered?
The grade I believe I deserve is a C+, because Amber and I had planned out our
workshop and outlines and activities to leave the most impactful and effective outcome
on our classmates. The energy just wasnt there for the both of us and the mood in the
room as well especially in the beginning although it did pick up, but it wasnt there from
the start and Cheri had to step in and if she didnt and that was a real world workshop it
would have went very badly, and Amber and I would have lost clients without a doubt.
And that is why I believe we deserve the grade of a C+ because I am applying it to a real
work situation and although Amber and I had great intent and plans and expectations we
didnt bring our A game.

10). What grade do you believe you should earn for the workshop when your

self-assessment is taken into account?

I would say we earned a B-, with our self-assessment taken into account because
Amber and I both understand that it didnt go well and what didnt. We both respect what
our classmates would give us, but most importantly Cheri who we feel like we let down
with not our workshop outline, but the little factors such as preparation with little
materials and bringing that energy to get the class into it, which would have easily
catapulted our workshop to an A had we had those factors on the day of our presentation.
At the end of the day I know we didnt do bad quality work or slack off in our
workshop we just didnt put it all together like we had hoped and planned leading up the
workshop, and it is all about getting right back up. And I have made sure that my partner
and I are both staying positive and doing well.
