LEARNERS
This Unit will be designed to target the students in
the 9th grade. The reason that this will target this
age group is because students at this age are
technologically inclined and also are able to
research.
PREREQUISITES
Students will be required to be familiar with
Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint
Students must be able to navigate the Internet
and research specific topics
Goals
To research the causes of diabetes
To identify and explain the 3 different types of the disease
To list and explain how to treat the disease
Objectives
Students will demonstrate how to identify the three different types of diabetes
Students will research the causes of diabetes
Students will create a presentation explaining the disease to classmates
Students will discuss how to prevent the disease
UNIT CONTENT
The Unit will contain the following Content:
Types of Diabetes
Ways to prevent:
Type 1
Exercise
Type 2
Healthy Eating
Type 3
Healthy Lifestyle
Moderation
Different ways to Treat the
disease
INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN
The Unit will be completed in 3 stages:
Stage 1: Students will research and find the differences between the three types
of diabetes using the internet and other outside sources including articles, and
the library. (In Groups of 3)
Stage 2: Students will research how to prevent and treat the diabetes using the
internet and other outside sources including articles, and the library. (In Groups
of 3)
Stage 3: The students will gather the information that they have researched and
compose a presentation using PowerPoint to show to the class and instructor
what they have found.
