General Background:

Chelsea has had a very successful PS III Internship at cole Edwards


Elementary School. She was placed in a grade 1 French Immersion
classroom and quickly settled in to teach Math, Social Studies, Health,
and Physical Education. She was a valued member of our grade team
and has made many positive contributions in the classroom, the school,
and at school community events.
Professional Qualities:
Chelsea entered her internship with an enthusiasm for teaching and a
strong commitment to her students learning. She has been extremely
resourceful and creative in seeking out materials and information for her
units of study. Chelsea was very dedicated and focused preparing her
lessons, ensuring each lesson had a purpose and clearly defined learning
objectives. She quickly established a good relationship with her mentor
teacher and her grade 1 colleagues (6 other grade one French Immersion
teachers) and was always responsive to suggestions and advice. Chelsea
understood and respected her role as a teacher and took her
responsibility very seriously. She had a very positive work ethic and
displayed total commitment to becoming a teacher. Chelsea was
flexible, adaptable, dependable and implemented change easily. She
was also very well organized and did an excellent job of maintaining
professional records.
Planning:
Chelseas planning, both long range and daily was excellent. She kept
very detailed plans for each lesson, with clearly defined outcomes based
on provincial curriculum guidelines. Chelsea sought out interesting
materials in order to present relevant and motivating lessons. She worked
hard at creating lessons that were fun, interesting, and interactive. Her
lessons were differentiated to allow students to learn in a universal learning
environment to develop the skills of 21st century learners in the classroom.
Chelseas lessons were well thought out and carefully planned. Her
understanding of the importance of using a variety of teaching strategies
enabled her to include activities in her lessons that maximized student
involvement. The content of her units and lessons was developed
sequentially and logically, and built upon her students prior knowledge.
Instructional Delivery
Chelsea established a number of routines that ensured effective use of
class time. Chelsea provided structure to her lesson making purpose,
activities, expectations and information clear to the learner.
She
understood the importance of stating objectives and outlining the

content at the beginning of each lesson. As well, she would review the
main ideas and facts covered in the lesson at the end of the lesson, and
at the beginning of the next lesson. Throughout her lessons, Chelsea used
a variety of instructional strategies: teacher directed, independent work,
group work and partner work. Chelsea circulated during work periods,
interacted positively with individual students, asked and answered
questions and ensured the students were on task.
Classroom Management:
Chelsea established an excellent rapport with her young students. She
articulated classroom routines and expectations and gained the cooperation of students in following the rules. She was consistent in applying
rules. When challenges arose, she was patient and aimed for a positive
resolution to all situations, which left the dignity of the students intact.
Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting of Student Progress:
Chelsea evaluated her students using daily observations/checklists, daily
assignments, oral discussions and summative assessments. Chelsea kept
accurate records of achievement and had regular discussions with her
mentor teacher regarding student achievement. Chelsea demonstrated
that she is flexible in her collection of data for assessment and is quick to
find ways to accommodate students individual needs. Chelsea was
successfully able to generate marks and write meaningful comments for
each students Communication of Student Learning document for the
subjects she taught.
Communication skills:
Chelsea had very good communication skills. Her students were listened
to with care and understanding and her replies were always encouraging
and sincere. Chelsea was been able to use verbal and non-verbal
communication skills, very important for second language acquisition.
Summary:
Chelsea has done an exemplary job in completing her PS III Internship.
Careful, thoughtful planning, successful teaching strategies, and good
management techniques were practiced and refined throughout this
internship. At all times, Chelsea was committed, hard working, organized
and resourceful. It has been a pleasure to work with her. Chelsea has
much to offer the teaching profession and I would be pleased to have her
as a colleague. I wish Chelsea well in all her future endeavors. I know she
will be successful in anything she strives for!
