Unit of Inquiry How We Express Ourselves
Transdisciplinary Theme
An inquiry into the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity
Central idea:
A persons behaviour and how they choose to present themselves projects aspects of their identity.

Lines of Inquiry:
How appearance and behaviour influence our
perception of others (perspective)
The influence of cultural and social norms on how
we choose to present ourselves ( reflection)
Fashion and media as a form of expression
(function)

Learning Experiences:
Students will be given opportunities to develop the
attributes of the learner profile by becoming risk
takers, open-minded, and communicators.
Students will develop their attitudes towards
learning through being creative with character
identity. They will be open to respecting different
behaviours and identities of people and will develop
their confidence by learning how they choose to
present themselves to others.
Students will look at the history of the ages and how
they dressed and presented themselves. This will
involve understanding cultural clothing from the
ages to modern times.

Language:
Students will learn how to write a story using a
story mountian and focus on the character
identity. They will inquire into appearance of
story characters using descriptive language.
Students will be given opportunities to write
stories using different forms of writing:
Descriptive and Narrative.

Math: Space and Shape


2D and 3D shapes sorting and classifying
Symmetry and Tessellations recognizing, explaining and analyzing
PE:

Digital media allows us to share our expressions with the world. How digital media is used in sports. How
we can use digital media to express ourselves in sports.

Arts:

Students work on fashion within this unit. They explore how color, fabric, pattern and design are used in
fashion. They watch videos on past fashion streams and they conduct discussions. Students then design
their own clothes.

Students will be working on to become a digital citizen. They will practice and learn responsible and ethical
use of technology.

ICT:

Music:
Students will start to learn the ukulele instrument.
Library:
Students will look at stories through the ages and compare cultural costumes.

Upcoming events:
17th December Final Assembly for students
18th December Final Assembly for parents. Students dismissed at 10.00am and school finishes at 12.00pm
lunchtime.
19th December Winter Holiday starts
