Reflection of Caldecott Exercise
This assignment helped us understand the criteria for Caldecott books and why they are
so important. I had never paid attention to award winning books in the past because I didnt
know what made them better than the rest, but now Ive evaluated books based on the Caldecott
criteria and know what sets them apart from the rest. This will help me as a teacher because I
will pick up on these characteristics in books and know which ones are best for my class. This
assignment was similar to the picture book evaluation we did because they both analyzed
elements of picture books and highlighted the unique characteristics. After learning about
Caldecott books Im thinking about Newbery Medal books. What are the criteria for this award?
And which one is better, Caldecott or Newbery books?
